Allergies in a 6 month old?

Question:
My daughter gets a runny nose and red, watery eyes pretty often. It seems to be worse if shes outside a lot, or inside without the AC on. I asked her dr., and she said a 6th month old doesn't have "allergies". I don't know what to do for her, bc i havent found any otc meds i can give her for it. her dr. said saline drops and to suction her nose a lot, but it doesnt help in the long run. Does anyone have a baby with the same problem? it isnt from her food, she didnt start getting like this until recently, and it doesnt get worse or go away depending on her diet. we do have a dog, could she be allergic to him? or have hay fever? Its always worse on humid days also. The only thing i can think of is allergies. I have them, and her father does too. Any advice?? i'd really appreciate it.

Wow. That doc needs to get correct. Yes, six month olds can and do have allergies. It sounds like seasonal allergies to me because it's when she's outside or inside with windows open. Depending on where you live it could be a number of things. Where I live, it's grass that makes me react. An allergist could do a blood test or you could talk to a different doctor about it.
Babies absolutely can have allergies, especially with a family history predisposing her to it. Ask your GP to refer you to an allergist nonetheless. If she has this trouble outside, it would be best to keep her in an air conditioned environment. I have seen babies with allergies when let go, go on to develop asthma and other respiratory situations leading to the need for PE tubes (ear tubes), tonsillectomies/adenoidectomie... and if developed asthma, needing nebulizers. Good luck!
It is possible to have allergies from young. Even 6 months old. An allergic reaction is an inflammation response to allergens.

She may be allergic to the dander on your dog or pollen or anything. In order to know which allergen she is sensitive to, you need to identify it factor by factor. It sounds like a tedious process but it is worth it. Since she is so young, it is best to go on a prevention basis. The more you prevent her exposure to the allergy, the less likely that she is going to develop an allergy. This is far better than giving her drugs.

Speak to another doctor, if you are not happy with the current one.
