Cold sores?

Question:
if sumone has a coldsore on their lip and puts cream on it and it heals and goes away then kisses sumone after its gone and heeled is there still a chance that person may catch it?

Answers:
Okay, anyone who has the Human Herpes Virus, that includes cold sores, genital herpes, shingles, carries that virus for life. If they are extremely lucky, they will never get another outbreak, chances are, they will get them a fair amount. When someone has the virus, they "shed" the virus whether there are symptoms (sores) or not. That means that they potentially pass the virus on, all the time. A cold sore or genital sore is more likely to be passed on in its active virulent form when it is at the tingling stage (and can still be invisible, only the sufferer knows, and maybe dosn't, that it is coming) and during the blistering process. They can still pass the virus on immediately afterwards. They can pass it on, whether they have sores or not. The virus then travels down the nerve to the spinal column where it hides. It may never cause an outbreak, or it may cause them when exposed to triggers, friction, heat, cold, stress and certain foods have all been reported as triggers. For genital herpes, even wearing synthetic underwear can cause an attack.

Scary stuff I know, but now get this!! By the age of five, in the US and UK, 95% of people have been exposed to some form of the Human Herpes virus!! Which means that the chances of anyone not having the virus lurking somewhere is minimal. Anyone who has ever had, or come into contact with someone with chickenpox has the virus, or has been exposed to it. So when you think, the amount of people who have symptoms (sores) is actually pretty small. Saying that, it is one of the most virulent forms of virus known to man. As yet, there is no cure, though scientists continue to make new discoveries. Treatment when sores are present is via antiviral drugs such as aciclovir (Zovirax) or penciclovir creams or tablets, but these just help the sores to clear up a day or two quicker than they might. You can use them at the first sign of tingling, and it may prevent the sore from appearing. Any herpes sufferer should never be without a tube of the stuff, or better yet, a little known product called Bio-Propolis, available from health food stores or direct from Bioforce. It works much, much better than any of the antiviral drugs and is completely natural, made from bee products. It gets rid of sores in about three days max and one tiny application can stop a developing sore in its tracks. Failing that, using Propolis cream is a good second. Both are better than traditional antiviral drugs.

Sufferers with frequent outbreaks should also take daily supplements of High Strength Propolis (either tablets or liquid) available from health food stores and some chemists, it also boosts the immune system and can half the time of a cold. And they should definately take a supplement called L-Lysene which keeps the virus subdued and less likely to break out. So yes, after a sore has gone, you can still catch a coldsore, but the chances are that person is already infected, and has been since childhood, especially if they had chickenpox, just that coming into close contact with an active sore, may cause the virus to "awaken" and a sore will appear. I hope this helps, I didn't want to freak you, but to just answer "yes" to your question without giving you all the facts, would have been irresponsible, you now know all you need to about the Human Herpes virus in its most common forms, which is why, only using a Condom can prevent genital herpes.
Yes. Even if a person doesn't have an active infection they can still spread it to other people.
Less chance than if they didntuse cream etc. But i would say yes.
There is no cure for cold sores. Cold sores are a type of herpes. There is no cure and when they go away they become dormant. This means the cold sores weight until something prompts them to come out again like a chemical inbalance in your system. You will most definately pass it on since it is incredibly contagious. I hope you told this person you had these or else you will be in big trouble.
not if its healed

people dont still catch my chicken pox that are long healed
No. They would only catch it when the sore first appeared and until the sore had completely healed up.
My man has a serious coldsore prob and he gets so down with it. I don't get it, it's not that bad, looks ok to me. However, I have snogged my man when he is "infected" and never got one so must be genetic in my opinion. Is a weird little understood thing so no-one can comment for sure.
Everyone says that cold sores are contagious no matter what. However, I have cold sores, and my husband of four years has never gotten one. My mother gets them, and my father has never gotten one, either.
To tell you the truth, I think you have a chance of spreading them either way (but only a large chance if you actually HAVE a sore), but some people are just more prone to catching it. (But a tip: Aveeno Medicated Lip balm is the best thing ever, it takes the red out and keeps them from itching!)
Good luck, and happy kissing. lol
Hi,

You will find that once the sore has broken and scabbed it is no longer infectious...but...it is always best to wait till it has gone completely.

Herpes never leaves the body it just lies dormant.

A chemical in balance or stress often brings it out again.

Skip
i normally get 2 cold sores a year...however whilst typing this..I've just realised (touch wood) that i've not had any for a few years:-)!

Herpes is something that is in a person's system (not to be confused with genital herpes.. sexually transmitted disease)! Some people are prone to coldsores..and some are not.

I would imagine that if the cold sore had gone then there is no "disease" there to be caught by someone else.. however lots of "kissing" can also bring on cold sores.. especially kissing in the other areas, as I've "touched" upon above!

What are your worries.. why not tell us and then we can properly help you?!?!
I take cold sores regular and have been to skin specialist (thats how bad they become) and yes its a herpes virus, never knew where it came from, nor did the Dr. I was advised to use my own towel etc, but if you can get a hold of Zovirax tablets (not the cream) they work wonders, my Dr told me they are very expensive to prescribe but they are amazing. You take 5 a day for 5 days and the result is amazing for me as I can end up looking like Elephant Woman before I take them. So I would say to be safe I wouldnt kiss anyone when you have one, I have to stay indoors its so bad. I would scare children with the face I get lol. Good luck.
Coldsores are caused by a virus called Herpes. Primarily Herpes type one is the usual source. Herpes can be transmitted during active lesions (coldsores) or through asymtomatic shedding (without symptoms). So to answer your question, it is possible, but less likely that someone can get coldsores from kissing someone who doesnt have them at the time.
Yes
It is possible, we all need to get our coldsores from someone.
