Is there an optimal number of repetitions for a weight lifting set?

Question:
The Arnold says do as many as you can. Others say the ones past 10 do more harm than good. What do people think?

Answers:
I prefer the pyramid method. 10 of low weight, 8 higher, then 6, 4, 2, then 4, then 6, then 8, then 10 back down. It has to start pretty low weight, and you are pretty tired at the end. I increased my max very quickly this way, faster than using any other methods.
