The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:
*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm
Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.
Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html
It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.
*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.
Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d
*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.
Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.
*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.
*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. In my weight losing live I've lost the same 5 pounds 137 times. If you find a way to keep it off patent it. Just joking Keep it up your doing great. Just don't starve yourself it never works.
I lost 50 pounds. Just eat right and excercisee. You know when you are eating something you shouldn't be or not doing enough physical things, so just do what you know you need to do.
When I was 34, 2 years after my 3rd child, I lost 30 pounds in 4 months. I walked, ran, bicycled, swam, circuit trained, ate less, drank lots of water, and I kept it off for 9 years, then I turned 43 and I gained 40 lbs. Of course, my husband, died too, so metabulism and stress put on the weight. Now, four years later, I lost 10 lbs this past summer as I have done yoga, bicycled, swam, circuit trained, ate less, drank lots of water, and it's a slow going weight loss, but I feel healthier and even if I don't lose too much weight feeling healthy is really important. (I do have a lot of muscle that weighs much more than fat. And, I am very strong.) The picture to the left is me 3 months ago.
I walk a mile everyday and eat one serving at a meal and when I want a snack, I eat fruit. Cantaloupes are good and very filling and also drink lots of water. Almost forgot, I lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks and keeping it off by doing the above.

well i hv an athlete body so i need'nt lose weight, but i hv an answer for ur question! Now as per ur question, losing weight and maintaining it completely depends on perspective ht. , age and activity type...
Since I know none of urs...i can suggest sumthing..if u r age is till 35...u can easily carry out workouts for 45mins or an hr. whenever u get time.I'd recommend u to hv control over ur diet too....Like if u hv a sweet tooth ,no doubt try limiting ur sweet intake and hving atleast brisk walk for 15 mins. or take up some sports like cycling,swimming...
So good luck and keep FIT!

The way I lose weight is by eating my calorie allowance for the day which is 1100 calories. If I go over that I am putting on weight. I burn off the calories that I want to lose after that, e.g 3500 calories is one pound and you can split this in half or quarters like 1750 cals is half a pound 875 is a quarter. That weigh I can keep track of what I am losing and also if over indulge one day I can subtract it from my excersise cals and realise I have not put any weight on.It might sound complicated but it works for me, hope I could help
I have lost 65 pounds so far. Started at 315 I am now at 250.
Eventual goal is 170.
PUSH AWAYS!!! My wife says I get more exercise pushing away the serving plates than any place else. Not quit true but close. I have modified my exercise habits and have been walking instead of using the car to go to the local market. Morning and evening walks to the park. Daily workout with the Bowflex. (started twice a week at first) I now buy all the food and there is very limited "junk" food. We plan the weeks meals on Saturday and shop on Sunday. (first day of the new adds)
How do I keep it off? NO SUPER SERVINGS. NO SECONDS. Balanced meals and snacks.
Example of a days meals.
Start the day with 1 quart of water with 3/4 cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in.
Breakfast Bowl of oat meal with raisins. 1-1/2 cup oats with 2 tbs of raisins. 8 oz glass of OJ
Minimum of 1 quart of water between Breakfast and morning snack.
Morning snack. one of any medium fruit. Apple Orange Plum etc.
Minimum of 1 quart of water with 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar mixed in between morning snack and Lunch
Lunch. 3-5 oz of protein. Usually chicken breast. Whole vegetable like a tomato or cucumber sliced with vinegar, one slice of whole grain bread, yogurt or cottage cheese.
Minimum of 1 quart of water between lunch and afternoon snack.
Snack again fruit
Minimum of 1 quart of water with apple cider vinegar mixed in between afternoon snack and dinner
Dinner BEFORE 5:00PM!! 3-5oz protein usually cold water fish.
salad with vegetable w/vingrette dressing. Desert 50 calorie sweet thing. Glass of milk 1%
This works out to about 2200 - 2500 calories per day.
You are going to say "Why apple cider vinegar mixed into the water" Don't know why but it helps keep the blood sugar from spiking after each meal. I am borderline diabetic right on the edge of formally being diagnoised.
Doctor recommended that I loose weight and I have. My blood pressure is down and the same for my blood sugar. And my collesteral is beginning to balance out too.
Simple way to loose weight is being motivated and setting an achievable goal.
PS My wife has lost 20 pounds too and she is begining to look better every day. We've been happily married 31 years and have decided to go for another 31 at least.
