Does every mg of a vitamin get absorbed until the body gets what it needs?

Question:
when you take a vitamin pill, does the body take in every single milligram it can absorb? if not, then do vitamins in food get absorbed better?

Answers:
the body is a machine -- every machine has its fauilts -- therefore, not all of a vitamin or mineral is absorbed the way it should be.

Other Answers:
Depends on the vitamin. Some are stored in the body, Some are excreted if not needed, like vitamin c
Yes, vitamins in food are absorbed better than vitamins in a pill. Your body will not necessarily absorb everything in a vitamin pill. Vitamins make great supplements to a healthy diet, but they can't replace good old fashioned food!
No they dont. Some get discarded before you get through most of your day. Most vitamins need to be taken with food. Vitamins in food absorb better.
Okay.take Vitamin C

You take your multivitamin in the morning and you get 100% of your Daily Value (DV%)

Later on that day you eat an orange.another 75% of DV%

That extra 75% can't get absorbed, because your body doesn't need anymore.so it gets flushed out in your urine. That's why when you are getting a lot of Vitamin C your urine is a VERY bright yellow (rather than amber)
It depends on the vitamin. i know is you take zinc your body will absorb more is you also take a vitamin c supplement. but what your body dos not need it gets rid of.
most vitamins on the market are made synthetically. You may absorb some of the vitamins but not all. Usually your body gets enough. Food source vitamins are definately more bioavailable to your body so you will get more nutrition from food. Check out http://www.advantagehealthmatters.com/ and look for New Chapter vitamins. They are organic whole food supplements.
Some vitamins are not absorbed well through suppliment form. Others, like iron, need other substances to help the body use them to their full potential. Eating a well balanced diet should provide you with the proper vitamins. Be sure to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Raw fruits and veggies have more nutrients than cooked ones and frozen veggies have more than canned. Boiling vegetables leeches vitamins into the liquid so unless you drink the juice, you loose a lot. V8 is an excellent source of vitamins.
