If I eat very little "bad" stuff in a day, how come I'm still over weight?


Question:
I work in an office, do a bit of exercise, but I'm sure what I DO uses more calories than I consume. Breakfast usually comprises of a bowl of cereal, ie Crunchy nut cornflakes, and lunch is usually Fruit, 1x Apple, 1x Pear and a banana. And my dinner is NEVER fried food its always health health health food!!

How come My weight aint shifting??

Is swimming a GOOD exercise to help? I would have time to fit maybe an hour a morning in before work??

There are a few good responses to your question.But you have to get more protein.There's virtually none in the diet that you describe.Protein increases thermogenisis and preserves lean muscle.Don't shy away from salt too much.You need sodium as an electrolyte and most salts are iodized.A huge percentage of the iodine in your body is stored in you thyroid gland.That's the gland that regulates you metabolism.If you swim do so before you eat.Make dinner your carb free meal eating mostly lean protein.Try to eat some vegetables in place of the fruit whenever possible.Try to split the same amount of food into 6 meals to mitigate insulin response and improve metabolism.

yes, swimmin is very good only if you seriously do it regularly. sometimes overweightness could be genetic, or because of disease or abnormal.
Your caloric intake seems ok, but you are not using the calories. Swimming is excellent...a total body work-out. Don't be depressed about slow weight loss, it is natural...you gained weight slowly...lose it slowly. To lose weight by exercise, we must increase the heart-rate and really make the body work...it is easier to swim.

Swimmimg is suposed to be one of the best froms of exersise, you use more muscles swimming that in any other sport. you need to be doing cardio in order to get your heart rate up. It's only when your heart rate gets to a certain point that you actually start burning fat.
swimming is great if done every day or at least couple of times a week. take the stairs instead of the lift little things can make a world of difference but there can also be a chemical reason why ur weight is not going down a simple blood test can tell u if certain food stuffs r the cause i had this done and after finding out what foods i should stay clear of my weight came down gradually. good luck hope this helped.
Hi, I found out my trouble was actually my thyroid gland packing up - so I would suggest a trip to the doctors to ask for a blood test/checkup.

Exercise rather than just diet is the key anyway, so swimming is a good all rounder for fitness. Your doc will be able to help - so off you go!
Sounds like you're going to have to count your calories. You shouldn't be taking in more than 1800/day. Replace carbs with raw vegetables. I eat about four big salads a week for dinner. I keep the carbs, fats, and sugars very low. I've lost over 40 lbs in the last 6 months eating like this with moderate exercise. Everything looks okay except you were vague about your dinner. I'll bet it's full of carbs. A lot of people seem to think bread, rice, grains etc are healthy, and they are, if taken in moderation. Keep in mind that they are full of carbs and carbs are stored as fat to be used later. Keep up what you're doing, just keep your calorie intake under what you are burning each day. I have the same problem, I don't eat 'junk' food, always eat 5 fruit and veg each day, exercise everyday, drink lots of water, only 1 or two glasses of wine per week, only eat out (Chinese) once a week, yet I cannot lose it, have come to the conclusion its the way I am and don't worry anymore. I used to do 'diets' but became obsessed with food then, would have a meal and would immediately start planning the next! So I just stay as I am , don't worry, its the way we're meant to be!
Yes swimming is good but your going to need more exercises like taking long walks, jogs, running, powerwalks, exercise biking, weight lifting it turns fat into muscle so i would suggest eat less grease and eat more healthy and i would suggest you can register at a local ymca health club.
dont forget muscle weighs more than fat.
you should look at toning exercises too.

yes, swimming is best form of exercise as it gets your cardio and all muscle groups. (dont just doggy paddle).

This might siound silly - but the problem is you are not eating enough food. You should eat 6 portion a day. I.e. your brekfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner, and a snack before 8pm.

Use common sense, and eat natural foods - you dont see pictures of fat cavemen! It takes a little longer to prepare - but worth it for the feel good factor.
Swimming is great exercise. You might want to add in some strength/resistance training. Because muscle is more dense (2.5x) than fat, a pound of muscle is much smaller than a pound of fat and even at the same weight you will look and be smaller. Plus muscles use more energy and raise your metabolism.
