Backache. Please help.?

Question:
I am a road bike cyclist and I hunch too. At work, my chair-table position does not seem right. I am also unsure if my aborminal and back muscles are strong. What should I do? Does yoga helps?

Answers:
Yoga can help you build strength and learn proper alignment, particularly if you look for a teacher that practices a classical style such as Iyengar. Kriya Temple trained teachers are also very good, and many classes that are simply called "hatha" will be beneficial also. A classical practice is usually paced rather slow and requires you to hold poses for some period of time. There is also strong emphasis on proper form and alignment. This style of yoga should help you learn what your body needs when you're standing, walking, sitting, etc. It will also help you build strength in key areas. It is really important that you let a yoga teacher know about your back issues before the class starts-- this way the teacher will be able to modify poses for you as necessary and help steer you to poses that will be most beneficial.

Yoga is better for stretching. Core strengthening (plank) will help.

try getting a body ball and doing the exercises on it that require you to sit on it. a lot of people don't realize that your back and abdominal muscles work together and if your abdominal muscles are out of shape it can cause back aches.

how about jogging? good for the back. Try to jog in a tall manner , wat i mean is tat straighten ur back all the way . Do a one hour run , 3 times a week . u will know the different. can join me if u wan . will email u my address. I have bad problem with the lower back that cost me my job as a flight attendant.. been to physiotheraphy. they suggest swimming. as they believe the water pressure supports the back with some light strokes like backstroke it can strength the back muscles gradually. I swim at least 3 times a week for 30mins or so. so now the pain is lesser without any physio recently.

Yoga is another alternative but please tell your instructor about your condition before u practise as some positions or postures may indirectly hurt your back.

If it is more than a nuisance ache, please see your GP for a reference to a Specialist in hospital as u would never know what happen after a proper x-ray or checkups .

Take care :)
