Your diet needs to be low fat, and to cut out real sugary foods, as these turn to fat if they're eaten in excess. The American Heart Association has a great online cookbook. You can get your parents to cook some of them for you? Otherwise no fast foods, cheeses, greasy fried foods, limit all these to a couple times a week. If you were to begin a exercise program, you would see these both come down quickly. Even by just walking every day, they'd come down quite fast.

Your doctor can give you the best advice. However, since you asked, here's what I know. For the high blood pressure, lay off the salt. No potato chips, corn chips, junk food, restaurant food, no pizza, canned soup, actually no processed food, simply because its all high in salt content.

For the cholesterol, no red meat, no butter, (olive oil is good), no yogurt, dairy products, no nothing that has cholesterol, but if you must, all in moderation and only one helping. When in doubt, read the food labels on the products before you eat it.

the other answers to your question are good ones however at this point, you are 17 with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, you do not need to consult diets on the web or books such as Atkins...you to consult medical help. Having high blood pressure can lead to diabetes and possible kidney damage. That means going onto a dialysis machine. Take it from me, I am on dialysis and it's not pretty. You really need to seek professional help, most states there is a public health agency or since you are a minor you can get health coverage in the form of medicaid from the state. You need to look into these options immediately! check out sites like the national kidney foundation find out about everything that high blood pressure and high cholestrol can lead to, developing diabetes, renal failure, and possible blindness is not a positive outlook for someone as young as you. Even the treatment of some of these conditions are just as bad as the condition itself. I have spent 6 and half years on dialysis waiting for a kidney, and the wait is sometimes long and hard. The dialysis itself kills you slowly. Please take my advice, take care of your health NOW!
