Question:
I want to take it up as i've heard its good for toning the stomach. Has anyone ever tried it and have you seen a difference in your body?

It is very, very good for your abs.
Have you seen Shakira's?
On that note, she's releasing videos teaching how to belly dance like her.
If you're a girl, that's exciting news.

As a bellydancer of over a decadfe I can tell you that bellydancing does and doesn't to a degree tone your stomach. Bellydancing is an aerobic excerise so you will lose weight if you do it regularily and you will become slightly more tone. However you will not get serious definition from bellydancing. Bellydance is actually a misnomer, a name given by sol bloom way back at the early part of last century to illicit shock from the public who viewed the "belly" as being sexual and improper. Bellydance is an all over workout that focuses on isolations of muscles in the torso and abdominal/hip area. If you look at most bellydancers you will see that generally have a soft rounded stomach (not neccessarilly fat) because while bellydance is a great excercise it gives long lean muscle like pilates(aka the dancers workout because it's the same stuff dancers have been doing already for centuries to stretch out and warm-up) it will not give you rock hard abs. Also bellydance looks better on a softer stomach, rock hard abs do not accentuate the movements as well. If you have any questions regarding bellydance you can contact me through my site
