I heard it isn't good to put kids on diets without the approval of a doctor and help of a nutritionist.
If your kid needs to lose weight... eliminate their intake of sweet drinks such as soda, capri sun, fruit juice, etc. That will knock down about 15 lbs right there. Don't allow any kind of sweet snacks or junk food, don't even buy it. Eat salads with low-fat dressing at lunch and dinner and increase your consumption of skin-less chicken breast while decreasing the intake of hamburgers and fatty steaks. If a child in your family needs to diet, then the whole family needs to do it together. Just eating healthy and exercising for 15 minutes a day will drop the pounds in no time, if you actually need to lose weight that is. .

While its always best to check with a pediatrician about your childs health before making any drastic changes, there are some simple things you can do to help that will not hurt.
You can change whole milk to 1% or skim, cheese to low fat or fat free, and encourage fruit and vegies for snacks. Also at meal times made the vegie portion a little larger while making the startch a little smaller.
I use a measure cup to make sure my portions are not to large for my children and so they are not over fed for their ages/sizes.

Hi, I assume that when you say children diets, you mean WEIGHT LOSS diets for children?
Well, when dealing with weight loss diets for children, it is best to introduce healthy dietary changes and also exercise to the children to help them with their weigh loss than take synthetic weight loss products.
I do have a tried, tested and proven diet that worked for not just children and also adults. However, in the case of children, I think we would need to do what we want our children to do.
Because our children will follow us. So should you want your children to follow this diet, be sure that you lead by example and follow it too ;)
1) Eat fruits for breakfast
Our body goes into a detox period in the morning and thus uses most of our energy detoxing. If you take a heavy breakfast of stuff like bread, cornflakes, burgers, pancakes for breakfast, the body will direct the energy to digest the foods. As the process take many hours, your detox will be compromised and when what should go out doesnt and gets stored in your body, you get heavier.
2) Eat less meat, seafoods and eggs for lunch and dinner and take more vegetables
Our body uses the most amount of energy for digestion of foods. Vegetables only take 2 hours to digest, meats and seafoods may take up to 8-12 hours to digest (especially if you eat it with carbo). If you cut down on the amount of energy needed for digestion, the body can actually use the energy to do more detox.
3) Cut down carbo.

4) No snacking
If your kids have to snack, then do healthy snacks like fruits
5) Exercise
Make exercise a part of life. Go out together as a family and have some fun swimming, running, roller blading.. have some fun and instill in your child a healthy love for exercise.
6) No solid foods after 8pm.
Try to have your dinner earlier. Your body goes into a delivery process to deliver nutrients to various parts of your body. If you take more foods during this time, then your body diverts some energy to try to digest food and ends up not doing both jobs well.
