Read this excerpt from the book "Dieting for Dummies" by Jane Kirby: "Don't cut your calorie level drastically when trying to lose weight; this strategy will backfire. Your body is programmed to defend your usual weight, so when calories are cut severely - to fewer than 800 to 1,000 a day - your metabolic rate adjusts to conserve the few calories you do give your body."

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com
Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier.

he may loose some weight but its a fact that u gain the weight back and some. quickly
doesnt mater, cause he will just gain it all back anyways.
he would lose weight quickly... but the second he starts eating again he'll gain the weight back if not extra because the body will go into starvation mode... since his body wont know when it will get its next meal, it will hang on to all the calories and fat it can to survive.
If he starves himself for a month, he'll double that weight the following when he's hungry...that's the way the body works. That is if he doesn't die first.
not eating for a week can be dangerous
Are you sure YOU aren't "Jack"?
I can't go more than 24 hrs. without food.
when we don't eat, our body actually stores fat so because it thinks we're starving. so not eating really isn't going to work that well in 4 weeks. eating healthy food, drinking lots of water, cutting down on junk and exercise are the way to go. worthwhile results take work.
when you starve yourself, your body goes into "preservation" mode and slows down it's metabolism to make better use of the food it's getting. you end up losing almost no weight and gaining it back very quickly when you go back to normal eating.
Not a good idea. If he starved himself and exercised vigorously, he would probably faint. If he starves himself and sits around, he won't lose much at all. At the end of the week he will be so hungry he will pig out and gain it all back at once. Best way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat everything in reduced portions, and continue doing so. Shrink skin and muscle slowly or the outer skin will sag and wrinkle. Not attractive. Keep hydrated. Lots of plain water to flush the system.
Well he will loose weight very fast but he will gain it back plus some.. You see when you starve you body of food it freaks out and goes into starvation mode. That means what every he eats will be stored as fat. He needs to go on a diet and count calories forget about fat. if you think about it the more fat the more calories so just count the calories. A man should be having anywhere between 1500 to 1800 calories a day. Tell him to search healthy weight loss plans on the Internet. A good diet plus exercise is the only solution to loosing weight.
9 pounds.
I made it 5 days and lost 15 pounds. And then when I did start eating I didn't want to stop. I am also very large so "Jack" may not lose as much weight as I did. My goal was 30# in 2 weeks, which is medically possible but I just couldn't do it.
