Ideas for preparing for a 5mile run?

Question:
Okay, so I wanna get into shape and with no-one to work out with, I came up with a challenge for all my friends; for us all to run 5miles along the lake by the end of July. Any tips on how to best prepare for the run? I sent the challenge so I have to at least step up!

Answers:
Start by stretching your legs and run at least 3-5 times a week. Start out with a mile if you haven't done it before. Once you feel your stamina has built up, add additional distance to keep challenging yourself. Use a walkman or Ipod with your favorite music so it's a fun experience and make sure you take a water bottle or sportdrink with you.

Other Answers:
stretch your legs and run a bit every day

start off slowly. set a goal to do like 1/2 a mile without stopping.
then a little while later, go to one mile.
later, try 1 1/2 or 2 miles if you think you're ready. do it in a set amount of time. for example: by july 15 i want to be able to do one mile without stopping and by august 1 i want to be able to do 1 1/2 or 2 miles. this way, you can go at your own pace. endurance is your friend when running long distances and always remember to drink lots of water! hope i helped! :P
