I'm trying to lose weight for powerlifting?

Question:
I'm trying to lose weight for powerlifting. I weight 154 pounds and I want to be in the 148 division and for that I need to lose 6 pounds. Could I lose about 4 pounds if I went for about a week eating about half as much as i usually do? Or would it be a better idea to just lose about 2 pounds and the rest lose weight from water loss? Any suggestions are open. I start powerlifting next week, and i want to see if being dehydrated affects your lifting.

Answers:
You loose six pound in one week, you will loose mostly muscle. Dehydration will greatly affect your lifting. It will dramatically reduce your power. It is dangerous to loose more than two pounds per week. You could end up with a lower metabolism, a lower body temperature. You will end up with less energy.

You need 18 x 154 =2772 calories. If you ate half as much or 1386 calories. You will loose about 2.5 pounds per week. A pound of "fat" is 3500 calories.

You don't get strong overnight, then don't lose weigh overnight. You don't obey your body, your body will not obey you.
Dehydration will effect your lifting.

The good news is that if you need to lose a few pounds for a weight class, you can do that in a couple of days.

Cut back on carbs, you'll drop 2-4 lb of water in 7 days plus probably a few pounds of fat.
