Is running okay after knee surgery?

Question:
I used to love running..it was the only exercise I could stick to. Then I had knee surgery 12 yrs ago and my knee hurts everytime I attempt to run. Am I doing something wrong?

Answers:
This is a very pertinent question. I hurt my knee a long time ago and then had surgery. I did not fully comply with the after-surgery physical therapy prescribed by the surgeon. I thought I wouldn't have to do that. As time passed, it never felt quite right and I believe it healed incorrectly. I spent years in pain, it caused a quite severe depression, I gained a tremendous amount of weight, and thought there was no solution. After 9/11, I joined the army and began their regimented physical training - and after months and months I began having less pain, more motion, and more ability to do physical activities (like running). The depression has gone away and I can do any normal activity and some medium-level sports. I have very little discomfort.

My advice - seek the best doctor, describe in minute detail all aspects of your knee issue, and make yourself have high expectations for your full recovery and get back to doing what you used to enjoy. Follow the doctor's recommendations and keep the lines of communication open at all stages. Good luck.

You need to talk to your doctor about this. This question is one that you don't want to ask just anybody. A mistake with a knee could cost you a lifetime of pain and alot of money.

no u will start bleading and cauld end up with a huge mess Try Ice hot, um some massages will work and maybe just starting slowly and putting slightly more weight on your other leg will help

You gotta ask the doc.
I had my knee operated on years ago.and ran about 4 months later and never stopped.until years later when i tore my achilles.but thats another story.
The doc will know what is going on in the knee and can make the best recommendation!

Good luck!
