this is an aerobics question about shoes or no shoes!?

Question:
ok i have tons of aerobics dvd that i do weekly and in the videos they have on shoes! everytime i try to do it with shoes on my feet kill me! they hurt so bad that i take them off and finish the workout. my question is this by me doing it barefoot will theis mess up up feet in any way? or is it ok to go shoeless?? thanks all! it really dose kill my feet!

Answers:
Well, I'm not a podiatrist or anything, but I'm thinking that the shoes are messing up your feet more than the "no shoes". My opinion is that shoes are around to protect feet from things such as rocks, pine needles, broken glass, etc. So long as there isn't anything you're going to be stepping on or into that might hurt your feet, go shoeless. Especially if you're doing it on a mat or a soft surface. If the floor becomes too hard, you can always put the shoes back on or wear an extra pair of socks for cushion. Or else, maybe invest in a more comfortable pair of shoes.

Other Answers:
Get some better shoes!

It's good to wear shoes i think.
My feet used to kill me when i played basketball, then i was told to wear an extra pair of socks. ;)

Go to a good shoe store, or maybe a good sporting goods store, and tell them all that about the shoes hurting your feet. Get their advice & try on some shoes that they recommend. You're going to want to try shoes made especially for aerobics or running so they really protect the feet & absorb the shock of impact from that type of exercise.

It's really not all that great to do aerobics without shoes because of the stress on the feet -- especially the arches & heels. You're also more likely to get muscle soreness in the legs & shins if you workout without shoes -- the shoes help absorb the shock so your feet & legs & knees don't have to bear all that bouncing & shaking.

You've probably noticed when the videos get to the parts with "floorwork" (i.e. situps, pushups, etc.) they sometimes have their shoes off. Do what they do & take your shoes off then if you want. But during that marching, running, bouncing high-impact aerobics portion? Shoes on. Protect yourself from injury & strain. It woudl be silly all that work to get healthy, only to end up with an injury or unnecessary soreness that you could have prevented!

You might consider padded or gel insoles for your shoes, too -- or maybe ask your doctor -- after praising you for working out regularly, he or she might have some good suggestions for you about the shoe issue.

Good luck to you!
