For runners: What keeps you motivated when you are running and feel like you need to stop?

Question:
Im not really a runner, but I jog a few times a week. Whenever I start to feel really tired, I start thinking about things that have been bothering me and that kinda pisses me off and that seems to give me a little extra boost. What kinds of things do you think about to keep you going?

Answers:
You know - and anyone who reads this and runs alone should know - it really works to play games with yourself while running.

You can do intervals - speeding up for two minutes and then easing back for 5-7 minutes.

You can sprint and then walk a few times.

Changing terrain can really help. Have you done hills or stairs, for example?

Whatever you do, workouts are much more fun when you don't have the chance to think about how long, tedious, and painful they are! Focus your thoughts elsewhere and you'll be much happier for it, I assure you!

Other Answers:
I keep going and think about how good it will feel to not stop the whole way. The first time I finished a mile without stopping, I can't even explain how good i felt.

I run on the sidewalk of a street that is fairly busy, but not so busy that I'm bumping into people.

People look at me weird. This just motivates me to keep running unlike the walking losers that surround me. I am a cross country runner and i think of the quicker you run the quicker your done. Other wise just keep making marker and say i want to get to there and do that until you are done.

Remember mind over matter.
