What are the best excersises to do at home to slim down your mid section and buns?

Question:
I am a 47yr old woman who has truthfully not taken the time for myself..my husband passed away in October with cancer and I had my heart into taking care of him for the year prior. But I have never been one to go all out for myself. Now that I am willing, hopefully it is not too late. My real problem areas, as for most, are my mid section, buns, tummy and thighs. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you who are out there to give the advise to the rest of us!

Luckily for all of us, you can increase muscle strength and flexibility up into your 90's.

As so many have said what you eat is as important as what you do. Make sure you are drinking enough water. (At least 2-3 Liters a day if you want to generate weight loss.)

Incorporating a lot of veggies and cutting down (not out but down) on starches helps as well.

The easiest for buns (and legs too) is to run. Runners have good booties. Speed walking doesn't have the same effect but is a good place to start if you are a beginer or have joint issues (like I occasionally do). Skipping rope gives you faster results, is great for the all of your problem areas, and only requires a rope, but it's also extremely high impact. I started by only skipping rope a minute and taking 5 mins of aerobic action to keep my heart rate up (everything from those moves you see on the videos to just dancing around)

Squats, lunges, and step ups are also very good for your buns. Step ups are easy and only require that you step up on a chair or stool at chair hight and step back down using the same foot. Again 2 weeks of doing this exercise consistantly can show great results.

For the mid section crunches (not sit-ups) are the best. I do about 13 different types of crunches (20 reps each) to work the different muscle groups in my abs. When done properly they actually help if you have back problems because having strong abs take pressure off of your back muscles.

Pilates is great for all of your target areas. You really don't need any equipment, and it's relatively easy to start. The pilates for Dummies is actually quite a good way to start.

I also like to do Yoga which keeps muscles from bulking up and also helps protect from injury while doing more high impact exercises.

As said above. Dance classes are great (I take them as well), but if you want to get started at home the ones above may be the easiest to get started in.

The best ab exercise you can do at any time, it's sitting up straight (As I was told by my phsyiotherpist)

Get a copy of cosmopolitan magazine. Every month they have exercise tips and they show you how to do them in detail. They work if you stick with them.

Do bum walks, sit on your bum and walk along the floor, that will tone it down, tummy - do sit up's, tighs - lie on you side and do scissor actions with your legs and your waist - stand with your legs slightly apart and twist half way round the one way then the other way.

Good luck and sorry for your loss, been there and done that.

I've always done lots of ab exercises. I haven't been able to for like a year now because of back pain =(

But a good one is doing the "bicycle" on the floor. You know what I'm talking about? Lay on your back and move your legs like you're on a bicycle. You should feel it in your abs. The key to this exercise is to keep the small of your back planted into the floor.

I know lots actually, but I'm finding they are very hard to explain on here. If you work well with workout videos, Denise Austin is fantastic and I used to workout to her. Get her buns, thighs and abs videos, they work great! Good luck on getting in shape ( I am going on a diet today =**( )

my suggestion is to enroll yourself to a belly dancing class, it slims down the waist and legs and its not high impact workout. it has the added benefits of socializing with other women and getting intouch with your feminimity(?) iv'e seen people your age at my gym do it and they seem like they're having fun. Its never too late for you. you've done a wonderful thing taking care of your husband and now its time you take care of yourself. good luck! Yes, I recommend both permanent healthy eating choices and habits plus exercising 3x a week. Make sure to do different and exciting exercises that interest u so u don't loose interest. In addition constantly changing your routine will work other parts of your body, so not just the same spot.
Good Luck!
I'm rooting for u!

P.S.- The exercise that best works the mid-section are crunches. I know they're tough but they right work and provide great results! Its good for u now that u have decided to do somthing for urself..better late than never. You faithfully took care of ur hubby now u need to take care of ur health.
First of all start off with a health diet.fresh fruit and vegeatables.less fat ,low carbs more fibre rich foods. Then u need to do a bit of exercciing.start with walkin..a steady fast walk.atleast for 30-40 min u can gradually in crease the time and pace.dont push ur body vigrously immediately.
If u can then join a gym and have an instructor to teach u exercises for ur tummy and thighs.U can also go for swimming which is relaxin as well as a very good form exercise.
Main thing u need to keep in mind is ur diet ..and do as much of walkin as u can.walk up and down the stairs instead of escalators(while shoppin) And abdominal exercises are a must for reducin ur tummy..try out the gym it is gr8 and if done correctly it reallly is effective for tummy and buns and thighs.
All the best and take care.Happy Exercising.
