When you first started running . . .?

You are off to a great start! I run about 15/16 mph myself, but I am running a marathon and speed doesn't matter as much to me as distance, and just finishing the darn thing (26.2 miles). I am also overweight and newly getting in shape. It takes me a good 3/4 of a mile just to loosen up all the kinks and get into my groove. Finally, after training for months, when I got my longest distance (at that time) of 8 mile distance I got the runners high I've been hearing about and felt great!
I hear you on the chafing. It didn't bother me too much until I hit 10 miles then the crappy diseingrating spandex/cotton exercise pants I was wearing underneath my shorts's seam rubbed deep into my inner thighs. I was pulling fabric out of my thigh during my shower and it was raw and painful!! After covering these up with uber big bandages and antibiotic cream they healed up. Now I use body glide and also wear wicking biker shorts underneath my shorts to prevent this happening again.
Now I am having a weird skin irritation that the skin is peeling away on the fold between your thighs and your torso. I think my underwear rubbed it too hard and it just isn't healing, but I am open to any suggestions out there. I just want to avoid more damage while running and eventually heal.
Good luck on your running! Congrats.

used to be able to run it in like 359 now walking like ten . you need to do some speed work (running sprints) and maybe some more distance try like 2 a day at first then build yourself up
I'd use talcum powder, or an equivalent, and makin sure your excercise clothes are the right size. Too small, and they'll be tight enough to cause chafing. The talcum powder will help dry skin that's er,,,, Not exposed to the air. Early in my time in the Army, I had a bad problem with my inner thighs chafing. Sever enough that the skin was basicly "sanded" off completely. Turned out that the Army's use of lowest bidders in their issue clothing. (yeah, they issue you underwear too) meant that there was enough variation to make the 32 inch size meaningless.
