If you wake up early in the morning to go running, should you eat something beforehand or not?

I see alot of answers talking about energy.The energy you need for running any considerable distance is glycogen.Glycogen processing and storage takes time so your energy should be consumed the day before.It's okay to have a little something but like a shake but there are pitfalls there also.The shake should have a very low carbohydrate content because if you've already eaten right the day before all the sugar does is raise your blood glucose releasing insulin thus mitigating growth hormone secretion.It's also very uncomfortable to run with food bouncing around in your stomach.You'll burn more fat for fuel if you follow these guidelines

I wouldn't eat any more than a banana. The more important thing is to drink enough water. Most people don';t do this and get cramps or their joints start hurting.

Yes, you should eat a light snack to give you the energy you need during the workout. Also, exercise 30 minutes before eating and at least an hour after eating. I'm not saying to do both, but I'm just telling you the proper periods in which to eat and burn.

I respect the choice of others, so I'll just say that I don't/didn't. Reason: if you're like most Americans, you ate plenty the night before to sustain a good run for a mile, 2 or even more.

Also, food in the stomach slows you down. If you had said bike riding for an hour, I'd give a different answer. But early morning runs...always empty stomach for me, or maybe just a little coffee or juice. But this is my personal choice...

I never eat before I go running in the morning. I run anywhere from 4-6 miles when I run. After I shower, I then eat a light breakfast. Best feeling in the world and a great way to start your day. I enjoy every minute of it.
