What are your opinions on gastric by-pass surgery?

Hi Everyone,
First off I want to say that I am a fit, 21 year old female that could actually use to put on some weight. So I'm not at all considering having this done.
Now that being said..

What are your opinions on it?
I personally think its a fat persons "cheat" to get thin. I worked damn hard to get my body looking good and almost makes me mad having someone who can do/eat whatever they freely want and just get a surgery and be thin.

I agree with you. I know there is a person in my office that has had the surgery twice now because the first time they lost the weight but ended up getting fat again so they had the surgery again.

If a person isn't willing to work hard at exercise and watching what they eat, they don't deserve a quick fit solution.

if i change the order of my meals but eat the same number of calories in a day, what will happen?

Have you ever heard of addictions? For some people overeating is an addiction. They gain so much weight by eating that diets will not help, and they can not exercise due to health problems. For them, gastric by-pass may be their only hope. Do not condemn people till you have been in their situation.

Although simple, it is a procedure that causes frequent complications. It seems that it has been a "fad" surgery. Now the results, long term, are starting to show by the thousands. My advice is not to even think about it.

First get a clue. Gastric by-pass is for people who are morbidly obese(meaning they are overweight by 100 pounds and more) and will probably die from one of the numerous diseases that affect overweight, obese people if they don't get the surgery. So they use it for a necessary purpose, not like a boob job.

how do we know the amount of calories burned in a weight lifting workout?

Gastric by-pass is a good thing! And you just cant eat and get the surgery and get skinny. It took my mom 2 yrs. to get approved to take the surgery! If you get the surgery the 1st thing they tell you is that their is no guarantee you will loose weight or even keep the weight off. you still have to excersice and eat right. the difference is that if you over eat you have the risk of dying!

I totally agree with you. I have a girl friend who is very big had and had the operation done in August she lost 53 pounds so far. I need to lose at least 15 pounds & struggle to take it off and she will be skinnier than me in a few months.
That being said I also need hearing aid's and insurance companies don't pay for them so it will cost me $3,600.00 dollars for two but if I was fat I could get gastric by pass and the insurance company would pay for it..Isn't that a Hoot!!
Oh well I guess i better start learning how to read lips!
