Start small. Cut out one unhealthy thing from your diet per week, and replace it with something healthy (ie, soda for water, chips for raw veggies, replace fast food with salads).
Walk for 30 minutes 4 days a week. It doesn't have to be fast, just get out and walk around your neighborhood.
The weight will come off slowly, but that's good, that's what you want.
Join a community sports team (even if you suck at sports). You'll have fun and you will find people who have the same goals that you do.

Get someone to diet and exercise with you. It helps so much to work out and "diet" with friends. Open up to people and tell them you are trying to lose weight. Then they won't force unhealthy food on you and perhaps can give good suggestions. If you can get a workout partner, you can motivate each other to exercise when one of you isn't in the mood.
Other things: volunteer to walk dogs at a local rescue or shelter. Find low-cal foods to snack on.for example, I eat shelled sunflower seeds..takes forever to actually eat a cup which is only 80 cal and gets me over any salt cravings I'm having. They also say, if you do something 17 times in a row.its a habit.so exercise and eat great for 20 days.then you'll be hooked on the good stuff and feeling great.

Put a mirror in a prominent point,a place you can't miss in every room in your house. Maybe you'll get tired of seeing your fat self. Or, just don't buy junk food when you grocery shop. Don't eat at "Jacks or Taco Bell",and most of all push yourself away from the table, that's how I lost 60 lbs.
First of all, don't hate yourself for anything. Then, set a goal for yourself. Don't set it too high or unrealistic, though. Make it reachable so you don't get let down if you don't reach a crazy one. One of the best motivators is to have a friend who wants to lose weight too. You can go to the gym or on walks together, and you'll have a reason why you can't just decide not to exercise and watch TV instead. And, if you give in to a craving or don't lose as much weight as you wanted to for the first week or whatever, don't bring yourself down.
