Should I eat carbs straight after workout?

Question:
I've been told that I should eat carbs within 30mins of completing a weights session, and then take protien i.e.shake, within an hour of finishing. Is this right?

Answers:
For weight training you should have about a 60 grams of simple carbohydrates and 40 grams of protein in "liquid form" directly after a workout.
After a weight training session your muscles are emptied of "glycogen" (a form of sugar stored in muscle tissue).
That is why you need the simple carbohydrates, to cause an "insulin realease', and refill your glycogen stores.
This insulin respose, will also carry the protiens (amino acids) into the muscle cells, and rebuild the micro tramas, you caused from the weight training, so you will be stonger next workout.
The best simple carb and protein after a workout is "Dextrose" and "Whey Protein". If you cannot find Dextrose use "Grape Juice" (old school method) it is high in dextrose.
You also need a similar mix, "first thing in the morning", (your muscles are emptied of glycogen from the 8 hour fast) and "pre-workout" (you need a steady stream of carbs and protein so you do not catabolize musle tissue while you are training).
Try this.
Morning = 30 grams dextrose or 10 ounces grape juice with one scoop of whey. (In 1-2 hours have breakfast)
Pre-workout = 20 grams dextrose or 6 ounces grape juice with a half scoop of whey. (only need a little, dont want alot in your gut)
Post-workout = 60 grams dextrose or 16 ounces grape juice with
1 1/2 scoops of whey. (most important muscle builder)
Add "Creatine" to all of these if you got it.
Then in the next 4 hours (muscle building hours) try to get 2-3 small solid healthy meals in you, having 1/2 to 1 scoop of whey protein with each of them.
And continue to eat small meals every 2 1/2 hours.
Here is a site that has good prices (buy the "Dymatize" products they are cheap and just as effective.

mayb..not sure!!

After a workout you should eat something helathy like a salad or fruits and vegetables. That worked for me. if you are trying to gain weight yes, not if you are trying to lose it.

Carbs before Protein after

If you are working out to lose weight limit the intake of carbs

Eat carbohydrates before working out for fuel. But also eat protein an hr before working out also. It feeds the broken muscle mass prior to being worked. Afterwards eating either wont do u any harm. I'd recommend having sumthing like a protein bar or shake after working out. If u do go for carbs after working out keep it light. But overall either is fine.
