The best advice I can give you is to cut out all the chips, cookies, soda ect. Go to low fat and fat free everything from milk to mayo. As far as meat try to stay with lean cuts and things such as chicken, tuna, and other fish. When it comes to your carbs think whole grain or wheat. The most important thing is to watch your balanced diet of carbs, fats, and protien also portioning as well. This way is the best rather than some silly diet fad. I have lost 80 pounds myself this way and kept it of for almost 3 years. :) good luck

go to yahoo and type in food calories or something like that. Also do home exercises as well like situp's and womens push-ups everyday.
The best books I have found are two places. One, the grocery store checkout stand. There are all kinds of small books next to the magazines. Sometimes they have calorie counter books that are fairly accurate. I believe Weight Watchers also has one.
Another place I have found great food/nutrition books is at university book stores in the Food Science section. Good luck!
try this website http://www.calorie-charts.net/ www.calorieking.com
Also try the USDA's website, they have a good calculator there too. Please see "Calculate Calories Consumed" source link below.

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.
*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.
Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water.
