Adkins Diet?

Question:
Has anyone tried it? Did it work and what kind of foods can I eat? And last but not least is Ice Tea okay? I gotta try and lose about 30 pounds. I am just not sure what to eat. If you can please help me.

Answers:
Please do not try fad diets that rarely work in the long run and consider a healthy life style change.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com
Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier.

eat lots of cucumbers
Yes it works and you lose it fast. But you have to then live on it or it comes back really fast and more of it
Ive seen people lose 100s of pounds on it. You can eat everything except carbs! That means no white bread, potatoes, pasta, etc. Tea is okay. Eat lots of meats & veggies. If you try searching on it, the proper spelling is Atkins.
Don't; do this diet, bad idea. u cannot go your entire life avoiding all the foods you cant eat on this diet, makes your skin ugly, and when you return to eating the foods you will gain more weight.
I gained about 10 pounds on Atkins. I reccomend the South Beach Diet. It is better, from my personal experience, in that I have lost 15 pounds in two months on it. No sugar, no starches, no grains, but we drank sweet tea. (C'mon, we are in Alabama! We need our sweet tea.) and while it is hard at first, you get used to it and it gets easier.
Yes it does work, but you have to stick to the guidelines no cheating on it. I lost 24 pounds in about 3 months. Ice tea is fine you just have to change the sugar you use in it. I like splenda the best. Just be prepared to feel like a rabbit for about 2 weeks during induction period. I ate and still do eat alot of chicken variations and green beans. Good luck.

I have held off my weight for almost 2 years now. You must remember that the only way to lose weight and keep it off - is a total life style change. Once the weight is gone you can't go back to eating high carb, high fat foods and not expect to gain it back. Life style change in eating is the only way.
well as you know Mr.Adkins meself dead from his on diet, i mean the only thing i could tell you is that you should try to work out and see how that works, because i think if you work out you would lose weight but the thing is eat health,go online and see how many calories you can take in for a day and just go by that.....
I wouldn't do it. Been there, it was awful. Constipation and general sick feeling all the time. At one point I would have sold my mother for a cup of rice! LOL

Seriously, it's not good for you. You'll gain it all back once you re-incorporate carbs back into your diet. And eating all that high-fat food is REALLY bad for you. I never want to eat bacon and eggs or cheese again as long as I live.
I tried it about two years ago. It was very effective. I I lost over 30 pounds in 2 months. Eat a lot of meats. Red meat, chicken, pork, and stay away from the carbs. Check every label. Some will claim they have none, but they are in there. The best advice I can give is get the books regarding the Atkins diet. They were a huge help. As far as the Ice tea, I honestly don't remember. There is one out there, but sweeten with splenda, and nothing else. Ok?
The Atkins diet is very dangerous and unhealthy. If you are on it for too long, it will kill you.

The man who invented the Atkins diet was killed by it.

If you want to lose weight, you can't just cut out a food group or take a pill. You have to be healthy about it, or you will be seriously damaging your health.

Diets do not work. If you stop eating, your body holds onto the fat you have for dear life, consuming muscle instead. If you change your eating habits, you mess up your metabolism, and once you are off the diet you will gain a lot of weight. If you are not getting enough of all of the food groups, you will severely damage your health. If you cut calories, you raise a certain hormone in your body that causes stress and makes you crave sugar. If you try to stop eating a certain food, you will obsess over it.

Exercise. Exercise for at least half an hour every day. It can be jogging, biking, lifting weights, doing aerobics, anything, just be sure to elevate your heart rate for at least 30 minutes every day.

Will you lose ten pounds in a week? Certainly not, that would be horrifying. That would mean your body is destroying itself.

But over a few months, you'll feel healthier, you'll lose weight if you need to, and you'll have a lot of energy.

As long as you are getting plenty of exercise, you can eat WHATEVER YOU WANT. Listen to your body, follow your cravings - a craving is your body telling you what it needs. Fast food in moderation will not kill you. Neither will sweets or carbs. The more exercise you get, the more you will crave protein, carbs, and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. You will build muscle (which will mean gaining weight - muscle weighs more than fat and as you get into shape you will gain muscle weight, so throw the scale out the window as it is useless). You will be energetic and feel better overall.

Please do not fall victim to the fad diets. You can get into shape and feel wonderful about your body the healthy way, and you'll be so proud of yourself for having the patience to do it.

Best of luck.
Adkins Diet.... forget about it . If that guy was still alive he would be sued for every cent he has. My brother works in a hospital and has seen many people who get on the Adkins Diet. He works to save there lives every day. He work on the cardiac wing of a large hospital. how do the two things go together ? Eating nothing but fatty meat is the fastest way to lose weight, ( it is like rabbit sickness) but it fill your veins up with stuff and if your heart can't pump the sludge in your veins , you die .. A moderate diet and exercise program is the only way to do it . but diets alone fail because of the idea behind them . try modifying your life style , the weight will come off , you will feel better . But there is no magic pills.......
I lost 15 pounds on that diet, but could not stick to it after I lost the weight. What I ate for breakfast was scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, 1/2 slice of bread, 1/2 C milk
Lunch: Tuna, cabbage salad with a sprinkle of salad dressing, cottage cheese
Dinner: Cabbage salad with carrots, g-beef patty, cottage cheese.

You need to stick to at least 30mg or so of Carbs per day and no more. Choose good carbs: vegtables. There is a handbook "Carb Addicts" which tells you how much carbs food has, etc. Drink lots of water as your kidneys are working overtime. Good luck!
I have been on the Atkins diet since 3 January 1980. It is the only way I can be anything other than fat. Just eat meat, fish, poultry, and some vegetables (no corn or peas.) This a great way to start out, but you must inform yourself further about exactly what you can and cannot eat.

The diet really works wonders, but if you are carbohydrate sensitive like me, you can never go back to eating as usual otherwise you gain weight very fast.
if i was you i would eat alot of fiber chicken salad
It's the only diet that ever worked for me. I took a week off work amd people were stunned how good i looked when I came back.

Obviously when I started eating carbs again i put it all back on...
