Has anyone had major weight gain while taking Paxil?

Question:
I've taken Paxil for over a year, and have gained a major amount of weight, like around 50 lbs. I also take Xanax. I haven't changed what I eat, or my activity level in the past year, so it's gotta be the med. Every time I try to diet and exercise, I cannot lose a single pound. I haven't taken my Paxil in a week, and am feeling very dizzy all day. But I'm sick of not being able to lose weight because of the medicine.
Anyone else had this problem with Paxil??

Answers:
yes I had this same problem i took paxil for 2 years and gained 35lbs., I needed the med. but not the weight, so I went back to my Dr. and she changed it to zoloft 100mg.,and I've been on it now a year and am doing fine. You should NEVER quit cold turkey on an antidepressent med. please go back on paxil for a few days, then go see your Dr. and let he or she change it. please let me know how you do, coz been there done that, and know how you feel.
stop taking it. If you dont feel good talk to your doctor. Maybe there is something wrong with it. I think that when i was taking it and i had problems i stopped taking it. Try to find some other med that does the samething and that doesnt harm you
Yes I have seen people gain weight taken Paxil. but you should be checking with your doctor 50 lbs seems alot in 1 year to gain taking paxil alone, I am not sure about combining it with the Xanax. Speak with your doctor about a weight control plan and let him/her know you have stopped your Paxil. This may not be a good idea to discontinue for yourself. You may also have to ween yourself down from it rather than cold turkey, some medications can cause serious effects if you just stop them.
Please contact your doctor immediatley and let them know how you are feeling regarding your weight gain. They should be able to help you and make reccomendations. Good Luck.
I don't take it myself, but I know people who do and yes, they've gained a lot of weight.
