how can you know how fast your metabolismt is, and is it true than when you get older it slows down?

Question:

Answers:
Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) can be estimated by a good nutritionist. Check with a personal trainer a quality health club. Metabolism DOES slow down with age.

Other Answers:
age does not slow your metabolism down, it's lack of exercise that slows down the metabolism, so I guess with age, people become less active.
yes
You can have a basal metabolism test done.. Then you know for sure..Is it that important to you?
Yes, it does slow down as you get older. After age 35 you start losing muscle mass and the more muscle mass a person has, the more calories they burn, even at rest.

I don't know how to tell how fast your metabolism is, I think if someones is fast they can eat a lot more and not gain weight.

I haven't been blessed with a fast metabolism, but neither have I had to endure a slow one. Medium is what I have. What do you think you have?
The less active you are the slower it will become. Like old people who just lie in bed don't hardly burn up any calories, that's why they don't eat much.
METABOLISM IS THE BURNING OF THE INTAKE OF CALORIES......IT NEVER SLOWS DOWN UNLESS YOU ARE INACTIVE.....EXERCISE OF ANY TYPE BURNS CALORIES.....ONLY WHEN YOU SIT AROUND DOING NOTHING AT ALL DOES IT SLOW DOWN....
BY THE WAY YOU SUSTAIN THE DAY AGE SLOWS IT WHEN THE BODY HAS BEEN BROKEN DOWN SMOKING DRINKING DRUGS DISEASE ETC LARGELY GOOD HEALTH GIVES WAY TO MODERATION
check your metabolism rate with a metabolismodometer (oops, just being a smarta$$, sorry - not)

your metabolism is what it is. it speeds up if you become hyperthyroid, drink caffeine, or become more active. yes, it does slow down as you get older because YOU slow down. it's easier on the joints!
i dont know how u can tell how fast it is,but yes, starting @ age 30,it slows down 10 points or whatever, and continues to go down 10 for evrey freakin'decade u live !!!! not fair !!!!basically,as u age u have 2 excercise more and nmore and eat less.the same meal that caused u to maintain ur weight @ 20,may make u overweight @45,unless u excercise A LOT>didnt mean 2 depress u,just venting !!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not just a matter of activity. My experience is that metabolism does slow down with age. When you're growing your body is using calories to power your body but also to fuel your growth. Once at maturity you don't need to grow anymore.

I'm 43 and 99% of the people I know that are my age fight their weight continually. When I was in college I ate 5000 calories a day and didn't gain a pound. I was just moderately active - walked to class and stuff but didn't do any college sports. At my current age, even if I do an aerobic workout every day (in addition to my desk job) I can only eat about 2000 calories per day without gaining weight. I can tell you definitively that there is not 3000 calories per day difference in my activity between now and when I was in college!
It can happen, sometimes without warning. There are so many things that all line up at the same time for girls and guys to put on weight as they get older. Sometimes it doesn't happen until you are 40, sometimes it happens at your age.

1) Eating. You are on your own, and have less time to cook. That means less real cooking, more pizza, more Taco Bell, McDonalds and KFC.

2) Stress - Jobs, school, relationships, all play games with your stress level, which creates hormones that make it more likely to put on weight.

3) Lack of exercise. You are working or studying more, which means less moving around then you did in high school. You are more likely to drive where you used to walk or ride a bike. So your body loses muscle. Since muscle burns fat 24-7, that puts your body in a position to get fat.

4) You aren't a growing teenager anymore. Boys don't stop growing freshman year - they tend to fill out with a little more muscle. But girls usually finish growing at 17 or 18, and where they used to be able to burn off those calories while growing, now eating the same amount will put on the weight.

You should track your weight once a month, along with your waist and hip measurements. If your clothes aren't fitting like they should, it's time to watch yourself.
