I'm not over 40, but I can tell you, that I find eating in moderation a BIG help. Don't deprive yourself from eating your favorite foods, that will only make you hate controlling your weight. Do some activities that you think are fun- don't think of exercise is punishment, it is supposed to make you feel good. A good way to lose weight is yoga or pilates. It really makes you feel good. If you want, you can keep track of your eating, but if you forget don't sweat it. Just make sure you don't eat too big portions, get regular exercise, and you'll be fine. Hope this helps! Good luck.
Start getting used to counting your calories. Start by keeping a little notebook where you write down how much you are eating (when you get to your max, stop eating). In time, you won't need the notebook. It will become second nature, and once it does, you will be much more in control of your weight than ever before.

I am 44 and size 38-24-36. I only eat red meat 3 times per week and i eat a lot of raw foods. I drink as much water as poss and walk at least every second day for 1 hour or more. I do a lot of housework and gardening but I don't go to a gym, I love junk food but only eat it in moderation, I don't smoke and only drink alcohol occasionally. This all works for me.
