how do you measure pulse rate? (like the devcie needed)?
Question:
Answers:
You need a Watch with a second hand.
Feel your pulse on your wrist just where your hand bends and toward your thumb. When you feel it, count the number of pulses in 15 seconds, and multiple by 4 for a minute of pulse.
OR just measure the pulse for a minute, of course.
Other Answers:
A pretty close estimate can be gotten from a heart rate monitor, such as those made by Polar.
watch with second hand; or automatic BP cuff;
Pulse is different than blood pressure. Pulse you need a clock with a second hand and your hand on your pulse at your wrist. Find the pulse, count beats in 60 seconds. That is your pulse rate.
your finger
You need a watch with a second hand or second timer. Find your pulse on your neck, and count the beats for 6 seconds. Then add a zero to the end of that number. That is your heartrate, or beats per minute. For example, if you counted 9 beats in 6 seconds, your heartrate is 90.
All you have to do is have a watch with a second hand on it. put two fingers on the inside of your wrist you will feel your pulse "loud and clear" when the second hand reaches the 12, start counting. when it reaches the 3, stop, take the number of beats you counted and of course, multiply by four.
The easiest is to take your pointer and third fingers together and hold them to your neck (side of) and feel for the pulse.
Get a feel for the rhythm. Watch a second hand of a clock for a full minute while counting the beats. Your total in a mminute is the true pulse.
Put your hand on your throat. That's what they used to teach in high school. Not sure how doing that helps, though.
You can count the heartbeats using a stop watch. But blood pressure machines automatically measure pulse as well as blood pressure.
Dan.
you dont always need a divise! just do the wrist thing or the neck thing for 1 minute, counting the number of beats, and then multiply by 6! its really easy. ( your could also do it in 30 secs, multiplying by 12)
if your not that worried about accuacy you can just find your pulse, count the beats for 10 seconds and then multiply the beats by 6 to give you a rough estiment of your pulse rate. Most people think of taking a pulse at the wrist but i find it easier to count at the neck.
Find a pulse point (like the wrist or throat). Use your fingers. Count the number of pulse beats in fifteen seconds and multiply by four.
i'm a nurse, the easiest way to measure pusle is a watch count your heeart rate for 15 seconds and multiple it by 4 thats your actual heart rate or if you want time it for 1 full minute that will give you a more accurate rate per minute
I purchased an electronic blood pressure monitor which also gives the pulse rate for 39 dollars. Check your local pharmacy , many carry them.
