does food products really expires after their expiry date or its just an estimation.?

Question:
further detail on expiry date of food products is welcomed

Answers:
it depends on what it is. milk and dairy keep to usually 2 days after the expiration date if they are well sealed. things often have 2 dates, SELL BY and USE BY. sell bys for shops, that ones always going to be safe so the shop doenst get in trouble for selling off goods, but really ya should stick to the use by, unless the food has been frozen..
meats and dairy last 3 days when refrigerated.
breads can last about a week if fresh, if kept in a dark dry place.

youll know when its off by the smell usually..

Other Answers:
An estimate. Our bread is so full of chemicals and preservatives it takes a LOT for it to get moldy. I've eaten bread way past the expiration date and haven't gotten sick yet.

I don't dare do that with milk though.

Usually the expiry date is 1-2 months early. It's safest to watch out for bubbles, molds, discoloration and odd smell. u asked a question and answer it u can eat and have things past the ex. date they are guessin ( u should always test it out 4 urself and if it dont smell right r look like it should throw it away ) ♥ later

past the date okay but in doubt throw it out, do not get sick from doubt!

Yes. In order to understand that, try to open a can after it expires.

I think its an estimation, my general rule is if its meat (unless it was frozen when i bought it) eggs, milk, fish then i wont eat it. Things like crisps, biscuits, pasta, bread etc i dont worry about too much and still would eat it. If your not sure about something then trust me its better to throw it out then end up very ill! It is a economically work to more sales don't pay attention that

not really, it just estimation, but it is advisable not to eat that food,..

it's an estimation,,so if you open it after the date labeled check it to make sure it's still good.

It is a best guess based on some tests. Shelf life tests are done to see what the food is like after certain time periods. Milk is a good example. If the expiry date is set on the milk and you don't refrigerate the closed carton for over 1 day and the temperature is over 80F, the milk has gone bad in that time. The expiry date could tell you that you have 2 weeks yet.
