How does one become motivated?

Question:
Well, my boyfriend wants me to lose weight, and he even sort of threatened to break up with me if I don't. All around, he's not a jerk or anything... I love him... it's just this one thing that bothers me. I mean, i really want to lose weight too, and in the past I've had successful diets. But now that I've had a bf 4 over a year, I've been gaining weight instead of losing it. I feel very unmotivated too, and whenever he brings it up I get so depressed that I want to just eat ice cream. He doesn't understand because he has a freakishly efficient metabolism and he doesnt have to eat right or work out to remain skinnier than average.

I've decided I want to lose weight for me, but i feel so unmotivated, like it's too much work or something... Any tips on how I can motivate myself to lose weight? I really do want to, whether my bf and I remain together or not. I know how to lose weight, I have b4, I just need some more motivation. Can anyone help me?

(Im about 20 lbs overweight)

Answers:
God Bless you and good luck.

One thing that helps me is when I feel hungry, I remind myself that I can live with this feeling. Then I tell myself I can do this for three weeks (21 days). So, when I am tempted by something, I tell myself, well, it's not that I can NEVER have it, I just can't have it until three weeks from now.

Ten minutes of exercise is better than none. A brisk walk around the block is a good start.

Remind yourself how fortunate you are that it's 20 pounds. You can lose it in two months (with something like weight watchers, I have GREAT luck with my last 15 on that diet, haven't seen them again since). So many folks are 100's overweight. They envy you.

And, I assume someday you want to be a mom. Start being a good mother NOW by taking care of yourself.

Again, you can do this for the next few minutes, the next few days, the next few weeks. Then you are done.

Other Answers:
I think you're justifying it as wanting to lose it for you, but it's really just to keep him.

Is it worth that much?
What a jerk. Kick him to the curb. If he really loves you he would ask you if you want to go out and eat. Or he would cook you dinner and make you eat all of it.
Go to weight-watchers. Working with a group of people who all need motivation will motivate you.
my wife was on me too for this. I lost the weight for her, not for me. but when I did, i felt better about myself and was glad she motivated me. I had to set weekly goals and tracked what I ate. rode stationary bike while watchin TV.
Just think that you would be better than everyone else for doing it.
Hello darling,

i think your boyfriend is really kind. you know what? he is actually motivating u to lose weight by threatening you! he wants you to be careful of your eating and watch out for your weight.

okay, my suggestion for you are:
1. buy urself some fashion magazines which depicting hot sexy slender model. you will feel like, "wow...i want to be like her too!"
Get urself motivated with the magazine.

2. hit the gymroom now! u'll feel ashame when u see other girls body! this move is good to drive you work harder to burn down all the fats and calories in you!

3. hypnotise urself that you lose weight is for your own health... so every sweat that you make is for your own good. not for your boyfriend.

hope these humble tips help you, my friend!
If you really want to lose wieght for you, not for him, thats great. I'd buy and outfit that you'd love to wear in a size that is you goal size, but keep it realistic. You have to be able to visualize yourself thin, see the results in your mind so you know what you are working for.
i am in a similar situation, but look at it like this nothing taste as good as losing weight feels............that's all the motivatio u need
The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:
