Should I stay on Atkins or go back to low fat, low calorie?

Question:
I need your advice. I gained 60 pounds with my pregnancy and my baby is 10 months old and I have 20 more pounds to lose. I was doing low calorie and low fat but I got to a plateau and the scale would not budge any more even though I was exercising. I decided to do Atkins and I am only in day 3. I have a terrible headache and I feel weak and cranky. Already I feel like I can not eat another egg. I am just not a lover of eating meat. All I can think about is having a bowl of cereal. I don't think I can do this. Also, I have to go though medical testing soon as I may be donating a kidney to a very ill friend who has polycistic kidneys and is only functioning at 20% so she would need dialysis when she got down to 12%. If everything matches, we will proceed. I read today that Atkins puts a strain on your kidneys so I probably could not do it if I end up with only 1 kidney. My husband brings me home tabloids of stars losing all their pregnancy weight very quickly.

Answers:
Get off Atkins. It is really unhealthy. Continue with a lower calorie/lower fat lifestyle but there are items everyone should avoid for the most part.

1. White bread. Switch to whole grain or whole wheat
2. Regular pasta. Switch to whole wheat
3. Soda. Drink water instead
4. Junk food & sweets. Limit these or eliminate.

You will also need to do at least 20 minutes of moderate/vigorous exercise every other day.

Eggs everyday is very bad. They are loaded with cholesterol. Try some whole wheat toast with Smart Balance spread and a natural lowfat yogurt for breakfast or a bowl of whole grain cereal.

I have been there Atkins is good short term but low cal high fibre is better for the long term Atkins comes back as soon as you start eating regular foods go low cal and work out more often I'm working on loosing after baby too and don't look at the tabloids they have a lot of money and no brains you are smarter and better than them good luck
If you're going through a medical procedure that will be affecting someone else's body, don't do any fad diets. They aren't healthy, and yes, they DO put your body under stress, cuz it isn't natural to eat only meat, and block out all carbs. If you still wanna do some yoyo diet, then wait till after the surgery. But if you wanna start losing wieght now, eat 6 small meals/day, jog for 10 min/day (work your way up to 20 min, 30 min) and that's it. You'll lose weight, you'll be totally healthy, and the kidney you will give your friend will be in the best of shape. Please trust me, fad diets are a no no. They only work (if at all) for a little while. And, if you don't mind me saying, ask your husband to support you with what i just said, rather than buying mags with botoxed, starving, surgery-ridden models that look like they're dying on the cover. Good luck and congrats to you and your hubby about the baby.
in the long run for yr own health you are better off sticking to the right foods and intake. this article has some really good healthy programs and exercise for weight loss
The Atkins diet is very dangerous. Stay away from it!
Your body is still recovering from giving birth. Atkins is OK but I think you may need to still add (a carb up day) to balance thing out. By The Way...Good show for donating
