How old is too old for bike rides? My nieces cry not to go on them. Is there something wrong with bikes?

One of my nieces is chubby, how many bike rides should she go on a week, and how long??

Forcing them will only make matters worse. They may be afraid of them, they may simply have it in their heads that bike riding is not cool and they will look bad if their friends see them.
Find a poster of a really cute (to them) guy on a bike, such as someone from the race that just finished in France. Just casually say, "Hey, either of you want this poster?" All it takes is for them to go goo goo eyed on the rider and then bike riding will be cool again.

I'm 40 and I still ride my bike. They should be encouraged to exercise, even if they cry and argue. They will be grateful for it one day.
bike riding is cool unless they were on kids bikes 20" or smaller that might be embarrassing for them and the chunky one everyother day I'm 47 and I still enjoy taking a spin on my bike.
I can't for the life of me imagine a boy or girl in the 12-14 age bracket not wanting to ever go biking.
Have you asked them why? I used to bike in tours. I am also asthmatic and I remember when I first started training, (in mylate teens 18/19). I was in good shape to start with! My lungs felt like they were coming out of my chest and I coughed so much. It took about 2 weeks for my lungs to be able to handle the exercise the rest of my body could. I'm in my late 40's and still enjoy biking. I don't think there is a" too old time".
One other thing, one ride took us alongside on a road with construction and a highway. One driver dropped something and tried to grab it causing him to swerve right at me and I almost dropped into a 6ft ditch.
I was rattled. I can only imagine if a kid had something scary happen. You might find out if you ask in a non-judgmental way being relaxed and open to their feelings and ideas of other things to do as well. What?!?!?

if your chubby neice is having trouble, try going on rides in a flat area---not too many hills to start out with.and bring lots of water to stay hydrated
