How can I become more motivated to exercise?
Question:
Answers:
Write down why you want to exercise. For health? For family? Just for you? Then write down why. i.e. if it's health: write down what illnesses you're trying to avoid. write down what you will look like healthy. write down the consequences of skipping a workout today, tomorrow, the next day. Then write this "I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday. Today I choose _____" (hopefully you say 'exercise')
But remember, you don't have to exercise every day. don't feel guilty about one day off to recoup; feel guilty about a week off!
Other Answers:
Work out a little more each day. Start off slow then work your time up..you will notice that you have more energy
The key is to get an excercise partner, that will solve the problem. You can pair up with some friends are just one. Have a CD player with you and listen to techno because that will boost your whole system up.
I feel the same way. I have been paying for a membership for the past 3 years and I have not gone.I am starting now at least 2x a week. You have to start slow, I need to since summer I have gained more weight and I do not like how I look. That effects me emotionally as long as physically sometimes.Hope this helps.
I mark on a calendar just what I do each day. Make it fun. Tv or music. Exercise with a partner, such as walking.
I can relate too. It's a vicious cycle as when you start to exercise it helps your body to want more, but as soon as you stop, it's done. I say, plan the time, place and then just do it. Don't have it be hit and miss. Set yourself up for success by designating that hour and it may help. Good luck. Do more walking during your day, park further away from the door to the store, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. You might also want to find something that's fun to exersise (rowing is really fun and starting to catch on in rowing classes), do pilates, yoga, softball, basketball, just something that you find fun and can motivate you.
I know exactly what you're fighting with. A few weeks ago I read an article from the journal Health at Every Size entitled "Identifying and Treating Exercise Resistance
from a Depth Perspective" by Francie White Jul/Aug2004, Vol. 18
Issue 4, p58-60. If you can get your hands on a copy of this
article, it's a fantastic read. It actually made me cry! I even
found how to e-mail the author and sent her an e-mail telling her
how grateful I was she wrote the article. Now she's in the process of writing a book on the topic. Her major premise is to give yourself permission to move.
I wrote the following after reading that article and I hope it will help motivate you to find ways that make you feel like moving:
My Rights as a Woman at ANY Size
I have the right to take up all the space my body needs.
I have the right to love and be loved.
I have the right to move freely and express myself in my own ways.
I have the right to feel sexy.
I have the right to feel beautiful.
I have the right to move with dignity and grace.
I have the right to be treated with dignity.
I have the right to love myself as I am NOW; not as I wish I was or as I was at another time in my life.
I have the right to feel successful and fulfilled in all aspects of
my life.
I have the right to live joyfully and fully.
I have the right to be a goddess.
Here are a couple exercises you might enjoy: Bellydancing-- because it's fun and you get to wear jingly, shiny things and get close to other women; Swimming-- because you feel lighter in the water. If you don't know how to swim, take lessons! That's what I'm doing and it is helping my self esteem!
