How Much stretching ..?

Question:
About how long does it take stretch out to do a split, both straddle (legs front and back) & a regualr split (legs side to side)?

Answers:
Depends on how limber you are. Some people are horribly limber and takes them a year or so, others it only takes a few months or less. You only want to stretch about 30 minutes a day a day though, don't exceed an hour because you don't want to stretch too much for someone who never has before.

There are certian stretches you can do specifically for splits, but they're hard to explain on the computer, lol. Oh when you do stretch, point your toes (it doesn't hurt as bad).

Oh yeah, as for your middle splits (legs out like... _|_ <-- something like that) it will take a lot longer than to get your side splits. And some people are better at doing their lefts (left leg in front) or their rights (right leg in front). Most people are better with their right leg in front, but there are a few who are better with their left leg in front.

For me personally, I was better with my right in front. It took me a month or two to get my rights, then another year to get my lefts then by my third year I had all three. But I'm also limber and stretched a lot.

Other Answers:
it all depends on the person. make sure before streching the muscles you properly warm them up and use the 4 T's of stretching.
1. Time - hold every stretch for at least 13 seconds because thats how long it takes for a muscle to know it is stretching
2. Temperature - must warm up your muscle first. muscles are like rubberbands and if you stretch it when it is cold you can hurt them.
3. Tension - do stretches that create tension against the muscle - as well as many different stretches that isolate and stretch the same muscles
4. Technique - make sure you are doing the stretches right or else you will not see results and you can injure yourself.
Good Luck
you have to practice for about 10 mins each side everyday to get it down...but make sure to stretch your legs before to try..im in 6 different dance classes so i practice everyday...to prepair to do the splits put one leg behind you (stand on one leg while holding the other one) once you get comfortable bend down and touch the ground while keeping your balance and still holding you one leg..then do the other side..then sit on the floor w/ your legs spread and stretch to the right..left..and middle...and once you are comfortable try the splits..make sure you have pajama pants on // sweats//and make sure you have tall socks//leg wormers on..then if you can try the splits on a HARD WOOD FLOOR because it is flat//and it is slick..take them slow on each side..if you do this once or twice daily you should getthem down in about a little less than a month!..GOOD LUCK!
