Answers:
*1) Consume more calories then you're burning everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. eat

Eat lots of pizza and play World of Warcraft all day. Try protein bars.

Your body may simply currently be incapable of metabolizing enough food
and it may be just passing right through you.

That is, you may start eating more typically fatty things and nothing
happens. If that is so, see your doctor. You may need to give your
tapeworm some table manners :)

If that is not an issue, yes, eat more, but make sure you keep up some
level of exercize and don't just eat crap. You don't really want to put on
a lot of fat do you?

You're better off doing this gradually and controlling it well. Otherwise
you may actually get into a bad cycle the other way and join the rest of
us trying to lose weight.

your not thin i'm about 106 18 and 5'8 male you could sitll loose some weight here's my target weight I still have alot of work >_<
Current BMI 16.7
Target BMI12.1 You are still maturing, so expect to gain some weight over the next few years naturally. You are at an age now, though, where you can start lifting weights to gain muscle mass.

By the way, 181 cm is just over 5'11, and 55 kg is about 121 lbs.

Don't try to gain fat. Better to be skinny than weak and fat.

You need to make sure you're eating well, I was skinny at your age and I was skipping lunch. very bad move.

Make sure you're getting some regular exercise, to help your appetite, and start lifting weights 3 times a week. Get some free weights (short barbells) and possibly a weight bench, slowly (over a few weeks) find what you can lift, and start lifting near your maximum 3 times a week. Maybe once a week lift a little heavier than normal, and after 2-3 weeks you can increase your standard weights.

Do some research on resistance training - you have much to learn. It just takes commitment.

Edit: Some interesting responses here. Obiwan41288 is fascinating - most likely a joke, or rather sick. Healthy BMI starts around 20 (I've seen 18.5 quoted recently, I think that's someones idea of trying to allow for the 'slim' trend), 16 is very bad. 12 is ridiculous. I know how you feel. I'm skinny too. I eat just as much as anybody else if not more but our metabolism is really fast. It was a conscious effort to gain. I would be able to gain some weight but if I got sick or something it was really easy to lose the pounds. As I got older I was able to gain a little easier but I mostly got a bigger gut; the rest of my body sorta stayed the same. If it's mostly genetics for why your skinny, try not to get too obessed with it. But you can try drinking supplemental drinks along with your meals (not as a substitute) such as Ensure, or even those diet drinks like Slim Fast. I know that sounds weird cuz their diet drinks but your drinking them for extra calories as long as your not using them to replace your meals with. My sister orders online an instant shake mix called Scandi Shake (if you get them get only the chocolate flavor) you mix them with milk. They are for the soul purpose of gaining weight and it actually worked for her. But she was really consistant and drank everyday. To this day she still takes them but not as much because she is happy with her weight now (p.s. I'm not a represenative for these shakes) I guess the bottom line is to not necessarily eat more cuz that would be exhausting but to take in more calories and so far my only solution is to drink it. Good luck
