I've done yoga casually for awhile and as you begin to read and explore yoga you will quickly discover that there are several different "schools" of yoga. That is, there are different ways it is practiced and different philosopies behind it depending on the practice and practitioner. Here are some good basic sources:

As for vegetarianism, that is a personal choice unrelated specifically to yoga. Yoga originated in an area of the world where vegetarianism is widely practiced for spiritual reasons. But I know meat-eating people who practice yoga and some who drink alcohol recreationally, and even a few who practice yoga and smoke (I don't recomment that).
If you feel that you would like to explore vegetarianism, start by just eating the side dishes served at home accompanied by a salad or something. Pick up a few of the Moosewood cookbooks, they are approachable even for non-vegetarians: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=br_ss_hs/002-3458352-7815222?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=moosewood
Or you could go to recipe websites like www.epicurious.com or www.recipezaar.com and do advanced searches for meatless recipes.
Good luck with your practice - whether you approach it as good exercise, relaxation, or a spiritual enterprise, yoga just flat feels good. And vegetarianism is not so scary, either.
