Three important things:
1. Drink plenty of water
2. Eat, limit your junk food intake
3. Cardio, running, swimming (~2x a week, for at least 30 minutes)

Then for definition or for strength, start weight lifting, but with light weights. Then as you get use to the weights, increase the weights slightly and continue from there.
You have to be determined to really want what you set out for, then just eat sensible foods, and always in moderation. Try to eat smaller meals every 3 to 4 hours. Drink at least 96 ounces of water a day, do at least 30-45 minutes of cardio exercise a day, and you might think about joining a gym (there are alot of them out there that dont have long term contracts.check into it). At the gym, do a quick 5 to 10 min. warm up, then do your resistance training (dont rest too long in between your sets), and then do 30 - 45 min. of cardio. You might think about getting a personal trainer to work with you and set you up on a program!! Dont get discouraged.it takes longer to burn the fat than it does to build the muscle, but in about 6 to 8 weeks, your metabolism will really kick in, and you should start seeing some great results! Good luck to you!
