How many days do I need to exercise?

Question:
I try to do it 6 days per week. But sometimes on Sat it's just hard with all the drama that goes on in that day! But then I feel like cutting my veins when I don't do it. Can someone please tell me how many days I should exercise without being in the need of cutting my head off. Thank-you guys. *Hugs everyone that answers this*

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. Send me an email or yahoo instant message to "gainbetterhealth" if you want an indoor air purifier recommendation and if you have any questions.

4 days.
anywhere from 4-6 dont feel guilty if you can't do it 6 days but don't do less than 4
Six days a week is plenty, as long as you are disciplined and giving it your all during your workout time. Alternatively, if you're not going as hard as you can, you could work out every single day and never make a dent in your progress. But definitely make sure you give yourself that day off. The body needs it to recuperate and your mind needs it for the same reason.
No less than 3 days a week if you got that down you are ok to go!!

NOW! let me give you this great site on how to do it properly good luck!
***Hugging back*** thanks I needed that today.

4 times a week / 35 minutes each time. Ten minutes to warm up and make sure your heart rate stays up for the remaining 25 minutes.
its good to exercise everyday...but everyone knows that doesnt always happen. try to exercise at least 3-4 times a week. but keep up the 6 days if you can
When I'm trying to lose weight, I shoot for 5 days minimum, 1 - 2 hrs a day...if I do something on day 6 or 7, it's usually not too strenuous (maybe some rollerblading or a strolling walk)...

...if I'm just working to maintain my weight, 3 days (at least) of good 1 hr minimum workouts work for me...if I can get in an extra 30 mins - 1 hr as well, that's bonus...
I used to be a gym rat and a certified trainer. I would work out 5 days and sometimes only 4 depending on what else was going on. Don't be so hard on yourself.
4-5 days, don't push yourself, because then the excersize wouldn't matter. You'll go crazzzyy!
Cut your viens? Are you addicted to exercise? It's fine to exercise 5 days a week. It sounds like you have a large issue because I'm betting your doing enough in M-F.
Thanx 4 the Hugs.
& I think U derserve 1 day off, have a break on Sats.
Hugs back.
:)
You should be able to skip a day without feeling the need to commit suicide (hopefully this is written figuratively, and not literally!).

Depending on your fitness level...blah blah blah...you should excercise at least 4 days a week, but no more than 6 days a week, or at least a light burn on the 7th day.

I probably wouldn't skip 2 days straight though, as it seems to elevate your stress levels!

If possible, skip on Friday (get some Saturday drama pushed up a day), then excercise early morning Saturday, so you still have room for some drama as needed!
It depends on what your goals are? If you're wanting to lose some weight you'll need to focus 4-6 days a week, it sounds like you're doing plenty! Are you doing cardio? Are you taking classes? 5 days a week is very good!
If you are feeling the need to do something on Saturdays, but you can't get away, why not try a walk later on? At a time that it's convenient for you? Good job!
3-4 days at least 45 minutes per day.
sounds like you have an unhealthy attitude to exersise... should be part of your life but it shouldn't control you, and it sounds like it does, get help, see your GP.
everyday.
U can alwayz reduce the exercise and do it daily, it'll be better
I exercise for about an hour 7 dayz a week.. just light exercise
Grin. define exercise? I knew of a lady whose doctor told her to buy a Playstation2, a Dance Mat, and the Playstation Dance Video Games that go with it. He said this will strengthen her heart, and may prevent her from having to have a transplant.

Dancing is a form of exercise. On Saturdays before your life gets too hectic, put on some tunes, let your hair down, and boogy to the music. Do jumping jacks, jog in place, let your body moooovvvvveeee to the music.

You'll have fun, and at the same time give your heart a workout :)

Luck to you.
