A Little Underweight?

I'm a little underweight (and NO I am not anorexic or bulemic) and I am in 8th grade. I LIKE to eat, but NEVER seem to gain much weight. I eat as much as I can at meals (and snack in between), but I get full quickly. Any idea what causes that? And any ideas for gaining weight?

If as you say you cannot stuff any more food in and cannot gain weight, you should talk to a doctor. She or he might be able to do more for you than changing your diet will. Have you calculated your body mass index (BMI)? There are many websites where you can do this, I recommend the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/index.htm (use the teen calculator). This will let you know where you stand with your peers. The best way to gain weight is to increase calorie intake. If you are eating as much as you can, maybe you should change the types of food you are eating, i.e. no junk food, stay away from saturated fats, UNsaturated fat is good, as well as proteins which will help strengthen muscles (muscle weighs more than fat). Whole milk, although not too low in saturated fat is a good source of calories from fats and proteins, and is sometimes recommended by nutritionists to help undernourished people gain weight. Also peanut butter is good, it has a good balance of calories from fats, carbs and proteins. Good luck, but most importantly you should talk to a doctor or nutritionist before making any drastic changes.

sorry, can't help ya, i'm have the same exact thing, and i'm 35. everyone says eat more, but how can you when you are full, i can't eat till i puke, what would that help?? just accept it and be happy, i mean at least you are a girl, it's more okay for a girl to be underweight than a guy. for a guy it seems like it would be better to be kinda fat than skinny. Underweight? Best bet would be to eat normally (do not eat too much) and exercise. Muscle is better for weight as muscle weighs more than fat and is much more useful.


Well mostly what causes you to be underweight is a high metabolism.


I'm the same way. but I was told it's because of a fast metabolism, I hate being that way. But I guess the only way of gaining weight is to be a couch potato.

you have a high metabolism it will stop about age 20 or so but eat chocolate before going to bed Someday you will wish that you were a little underweight. I was the same way when I was your age until I got out of high school and now I wish I could go back that way. You will be just fine. Everbody thought I was anorexic but I ate all the time and now you would never guess it. I am not overweight but would like to lose about 5 or 10 pounds. well idk y u get full so fast, but may b if u work out and build muscle u can gain weight wit dat idk may b:)


your one of those people who can eat whatever they want and never gain a pound i wish i was you. just eat 3 meals a day with the occasional snack trust me u will gain weight but trust me be happy with how u look now because most girls like me would kill to be you.

i am 11 and weigh 65 lb. i eat loads but never seem 2 gain!
