well, thats how you get abs, by not doing situps. Now if you want a smaller stomach, or flatter stomach, then you'll need to diet & excercise. Crunches, swimming, yoga..liposuction. Implants!
Situps can be dangereous because they can injure a part in the back. The most effective ab exercises I've heard of are the ones you do with a big exercise ball (they sometimes call the medicine balls). You know, those big blue ones. There is also an exercise called the captain's chair. Look it up and you'll see what I mean.
pilates. i makes you work your "core" and the abs will just strengthen while you do the various pilates exercises. you can also lay flat on back with hands at sides and do leg raises.
running, forget the situps all those do is hurt your back cause most people cant do them right. so my advise is too run and and not eat so much fatty foods. Try leg lifts and crunches.Also any movement that engages the abdominal muscles
