Is it true that when you sweat more you burn more calories?

Question:
I take a martial arts class and our dojo does not have airconditioning. It can get very hot in there. I have had some people tell me that because we are sweating more that we are burning more calories. I don't think this is true because the intensity of the class did not change. I just thought that we were sweating more beacuse we were hotter than usual. What are your thoughts on this?

Answers:
This is not true or the sauna would contain a lot more people trying to lose weight.

The sweating MAY be an indication of a harder cardio workout but the amount of sweat cannot be the indication of how hard the workout was.

Sweating is an effect and not a cause.

it's true that sweat can burn calories/fat :) it's best to drink water afterwards.. :)

its absolutely true no not fully u need a better exercise routine with a proper diet plan

You are not losing calories, but fluid. You will lose calories during the class because you are exerting yourself. You should carry some water with you to replace the fluid you are losing through sweat.

generally yes. your body burns calories to produce energy. when your body gets overheated you sweat and the sweat cools you off. your body uses more energy to produe the sweat, and therefor burns more calories.
