jumping rope is a killer cardiowork out, but it is hard! I would start with something like one minute jumping, one minute resting for twenty minutes. what boxeres do is alternate this with pushups and situps, which would realy boost your sculpting time. You should start to see results in under two weeks

It depends on whether you are overweight or not. First of all, you should always check with your doctor before taking up any form of physical exercise that is new to you. Secondly, it depends on your diet (which I would recommend changing anyway) as well as how much you jump rope. It's a great cardiovascular exercise and will strengthen your heart. But by "in shape" you may mean slimmer which requires a diet of steamed vegetables and lean meats only. No sodas, no dairy products (except for eggs), and reduce your portion sizes to get to a small quantity, but eat 6 meals a day. You'll do great! how long it takes depends on how out of shape U R.
