i want to learn how to defend myself.?

Question:
i want to learn how to defend myself, are there any websites that tell me how?

Answers:
you don't need a website, you need a dojo. find a good martial arts school and learn karate, tai kown do, judo, etc

Other Answers:
Don't know any websites but if you go to your local Leisure centre guarenteed their will be Martial Arts clubs
Elaborate.physically or mentally.
look in your local yellow pages, there should be a section under self defence, then at least it'll be local for you
Contact your local YMCA and ask about them, I am sure they offer them or can point you in the right direction.
wax on, wax off

check out the go kan ru website. they are worldwide karate club.
You should take something like Karate or go on google and type in,"Karate."
Go to jail. You'll have to learn, fast. Total emmersion! :D
Realistically, learning to defend yourself involved buying a gun (I recommend a Glock .40 or .357 magnum), learning to shoot and moving to a state that allows carry permits and doesn't have insane laws having to do with self-defense situations (ie you should not fear going to jail because you shot someone who attacked you).
This is not learned at the keyboard! Do as the others say, a local paper, a postcard that's probably up in your local supermarket. The English/Korean Lau Gar Kung Fu association. Kicking people, with knobs on!
Join the Army. The Army has classes in combatives. Unlike martial arts which are basically for exercise, in combatives we actually learn to disable each other.
there isnt going to be a website that teaches you my family owns a martial arts school and that is all i can think of to tell you you have to join a local school and go at least two times a week. it will really help you and if it is a good school they should have seminars on a regular basis to help improve youre self defense
This is best achieved with a qualified teacher. You may find some local self defence classes or join a martial arts or boxing club. It takes quite a while to achieve competence and a level of fitness needed to do this efficiently.
Your best bet is to join a club that teaches the Japanese martial art of Aikido. This is a purely defensive martial art. It does not rely on size or strength, so it is suitable for smaller adults, including women.
You can find information about Aikido clubs by contacting the Amateur Martial Association, which is a national "umbrella" organisation for the martial arts in Britain.
You should join an Aikido club that teaches traditional Aikido. In most Aikido clubs the male and female Aikido students train with each other; not many Aikido clubs have classes for men only or women only. That makes sense, because women have to learn how to defend themselves against physical attacks by men.
can't say i recommend joining the army just for self defence.
martial arts are good but many of them cover far more than simple self defence.
always ask if you can learn self defence first, them see if you want to stay and learn the advanced forms and classic weapon styles, which may be unnecessary for your situation.
finally the best defense is making an opportunity to safely run away(never turn your back immediately on a dangerous situation)
You can't learn a self defense system from going on a website. Like any other physical skill, it has to be practised properly for some time before you master it to any extent.

If you're looking for a self defence, rather than fitness based martial art, or you just want to learn how to kick somebody's head in, then you're best off going for a jiu jitsu based art, jiu jitsu, aikido, judo, ninjitsu, etc.

If you just want to look impressive kicking your legs about, get into fights and get a blackbelt really quickly, go for kickboxing.

If you have a lot of determination and patience, the chinese arts such as kung fu and jeet kun do are complex systems that aim to balance mind, spirit and body.
In my opinion it all comes down to what sort of person you are. Some of the hardest people i have ever met have never taken martial arts or gone to a boxing club. You need to 'have it in you' so to speak.
If you are a wimp before you do martial arts you will just be a wimp who does martial arts afterwards.

However that said i would reccommend going to a club where you can do some good quality full contact sparring with guys who just wanna train hard and not make friends and ponce about.

Any boxing or thai club or even kickboxing (sometimes) that gives you the opportunity to get stuck in and try out everything you have learned will help a lot.

Try to avoid ANY club that doesnt spar full contact or has ridiculous techniques that you know would never work in a million years that claim to be really good self defense classes as there are 50 of these to every 1 which is the real deal.

Then finally when you do get used to full contact sparring and hitting people hard and being hit hard yourself, nothing can prepare you for the first time you have a real scrap and the immense adrenalin rush that follows, making you fight almost like a complete beginnner again.
If you can handle the rush then you're almost there but this is much easier said than done, after all to be able to do that means you have to get into that situation a lot to become accustomed to it and who would want to do that every friday night? The kind of person i mentioned at the very start, who doesnt do martial art classes just has eight pints of stella and then headbutts you before you have time to assume your 'karate stance'.

Any club that teaches you how to fight multiple attackers, apply wristlocks or do a jump turn back kick is without a doubt NOT the place to learn how to defend yourself, like i said you can go into any town or city and see a 'qualified instructor' teaching or advertising self defense classes or techniques which are complete and utter bollocks!
But whats even more annoying is that some people are very guillable and genuinly believe that their block, wrist lock, hip throw and punch to finish (or whatever) will work, thus they get themselves into a sitaution which escalates and they dont have they means to get out of if as they are under a false belief and in way over their head.

One last note, any club which specifically advertises itself as a self defense club that teaches you to wait until someone throws a punch or attacks you and then you counter and do whatever is a complete waste of time. Its the truth pure and simple.
Lots of people will disagree saying they took on 8 people and beat them all senseless with their well practised board breaking skills and fantastic wrist locks and escapes they were taught whilst training at their local 'self defense club' but if you believe that you will believe anything.

Please note i am only knocking these clubs from a view of real self defense. If someone wants to get belts or improve there fitness or compete then thats fine and i completely agree, but please understand that what works with your compliant and friendly training partner will rarely work outside.

I know im gonna ruffle lots of poeples feathers here but ah well..
