Coffee is not a clear liquid. I had an Uncle have his surgery postponed over a cup of Java.

I am a certified nurses aide and certified medication tech.Been one since 1990 in a hospital
According to what I learned in classes(pre-nursing) and my hospital stays, No. Clear liquids other than water include chicken broth,7up, and apple juice. No coffee, what a way to start the day!
I would stay away from the caffiene, especially since it elevates your adrenaline and you don't want to be having heart issues during surgery. The more water you drink, the more likely you are to have less pain after surgery. Stay away from caffiene altogether. It's a toxin anyway. I think the only reason they want you on a liquid diet is to reduce your solid waste so you don't lose it during surgery, and to reduce the functions your body is performing during the surgery. Nonetheless caffeine is a laxative, and you don't want to soil yourself during surgery.

Oh yeah.haha coffee is not a clear liquid!
You have been asked be on a clear diet before surgery to empty your bowels.Coffee decreases bowel movement, so you shouldn't drink coffee.
Stick to clear broth, clear juices like cranberry, apple etc with no pulp. No milk either.
No including decaf that isn't clear
yes
