What does your body do with carbonation after you ingest it?

Question:
When you drink soda and other carbonated drinks, what does your body do with the gas? Absorb it? Digest it? Pass it?

Answers:
Part of it collects and is expelled by burping. Some of it absorbs into your blood stream and is eventually eliminated by the lungs. Some of it becomes passing gas at the other end of your digestive tract. Some of it forms free radicals and damages your cells.

In general the body was designed to get rid of carbon dioxide - not to ingest it.
