Macrobiotic diet?

Hey, Ex-Pat.
I only knew one family of nine who was on this diet. Those were the sickest children I had ever seen in my life. The oldest boy, at 15, had fainting spells, the 10 year old girl had cold sores all across her mouth so bad she could hardly eat. The eight year old girl suddenly started having seizures just out of the blue, the five year old had a constant cold, her nose was all gooey green the entire year I lived next door to them. All of them looked very anemic and were so slight that a stiff wind would have knocked them over.
When my neighbor asked me what kinds of things she could do for her kids to help them homeopathically, I told her to feed her cold sore daughter loads of onions because onions are filled with Tanic acid, which fights off the ewww that makes cold sores. Do you know what she said? The macrobiotics instructor told them to throw out all of their garlic and onions because those things are "bad for you." She actually told them that people should never eat foods that do not grow naturally in their own regions!
My little family used to eat with their family on occasion, and the food was quite tasteless and bland and just left us hungry. We always had to go home and eat dinner after dinner.
I would never -- NEVER -- advise someone to get on this diet. Given what I have personally seen, this is not a healthy diet at all.
