can I use oil to lubricate my treadmill?

Question:
I see the "official" answers on the web about "if you do it will ruin your machine" but these are from people selling lubricant. I am looking for more empirical proof.

If the answer is "no, don't do that" then what "type" of lubricant is best and why?

Answers:
Eegad, never use WD40 or standard oil. What you should use is going to be dependant upon which treadmill you have. Some use a wax embedded in the deck, others need silicone powder or spray. Your owner's manual should have a section on maintenance which outlines what should and should not be used. If you email me with the brand of your treadmill I can tell you what to use.oh, and I don't sell lubricant, I've just been doing treadmill/elliptical repairs for gyms for the past 20 years.

Try WD-40. You can never go wrong with WD-40.
