I lost 30 lbs and have kept it off for over 2 years following what is called a Calorie Restricted, Optimum Nutrition diet (CR diet). Over 600 articles in scientific journals have been published on this diet in the last decade.
It is the best change to my eating habits I have ever made and I intend to do it for the rest of my life.
The diet has 2 rules:
1. Cut your calories significantly
2. Make sure you get 100% of your nutritional needs
Other than above the two rules, eat anything you want.
I lost about 1 to 2 lbs a week. I am 5'7", a guy, and weighed 160. For the first several months I ate 1400 to 1500 calories each day. Once I got down to 130lb I had to up my calories to 1750 to 1850 keep from losing more weight.
I find the hard part of this diet is not cutting calories, it is keeping track of all the nutrients. I carry around a pen and small piece of paper and note down shortly after I eat each thing I ate. Each evening I calculate my nutrients.

I would not recommend this diet unless you are an adult. Also, it would be a mistake to cut calories a lot and not make sure you are getting the proper nutrition.

Although this diet is great for getting complete control over your weight (I can adjust my weight to anything I want), the main reason for the diet is not weight loss.
The hundreds of scientific papers I mentioned show how this diet when used on worms, fish, mice, rats, dogs, and other animals significantly extends their lifetimes and cuts down significantly all kinds of diseases (cancer, cardiovascular, diabetic, neurodegenerative, etc). The longest lived mice on CR live 30% or more longer than the longest lived mice not on CR in controlled, scientific experiments. Rats bred to get breast cancer drop from 55% getting cancer to under 5% getting it.
None of these results have been proven true in humans yet, but evidence about the healthful effects on humans is beginning to accumulate also.

I did a diet when you don't eat any food that don't begin with vowls and it kinda worked for me
lower your calorie intake by about 300 or 400 calories a day and excersice for one hour per day. Also eat breakfast and things high in protein. All of this together will help you build muscle and burn fat by kick starting your metabolism. If you cant excersice an hour a day try to do short bursts of exersice like 5 minutes 6 times a day or something.
You might want to start with bad habits(drinking, sweets, NOT WORKING OUT!!)
Weight Watchers..I averaged a loss of about 4 lbs. per week. It is a system where you monitor your calories and follow a point system, but you can still eat whatever you want as long as you stay within your guidelines. Weight Watchers is awesome! There are many options that you can do whether it be on-line or going to meetings! I lost 40lbs in 5 months just doing the flex plan. What that entails is you can eat anything in the world, you just can't go over your "points" on a daily basis. If your interested contact me. I loved it, the only reason I am not still on it is because I am cheap and lazy, sadly to sat because it truely does work!
I lost 10 pounds without exercising by doing the following:
increase the amount of protein you eat. Reduce your fat intake, do not eat trans fat and eat as less as sat fat as you can.Eat carbs in moderation. Eat more times a day but reduce the portions quantity. Don't starve yourself! Do not use salad dressings, a spoon of olive oil, salt and vinegar should be fine. When you go to the supermarket, don't buy unhealthy food, the rule is the following: If it's at home, you're gonna eat it, so, don't have it at home!
cut off junk food, eat small healthy meals, no soda, exercise 7 days a week, drink LOTS of water, limit sugar intake
exercise. Running is great. If you become a habitual runner, you're metabolism will speed up so much you'll be able to drop weight without having to adjust your diet.
First- you still have to eat meat but try to eat more veggies + fruits instead of "comfort foods" (sweets, chips, fast foods- the stuff we all like!)
Second- you have to move more- it doesn't matter if anybody wants to call it exercise- you have to move more- walking, bowling or picking flowers- movement is important.
