How do I lose 20lbs?

Question:
I am 5'10. I am 15. I want to not only lose the weight but keep it off. I am slim and an athlete.I play volleyball, basketball, and run track so I ahve no problem working out but it seems like its not enough cause during the season I might lose 10 but that's it, And I don't keep it off during the summer.I am want a lifestyle change not a quick fix.

Answers:
Well obviously, cardio is not a problem for you. So it must be your eating habits. However, you are only 15 and will keep losing weight; everybody looks best at 17 (usually scary thin). But it's good that you want to make lifestyle changes. Your motobolism is going to be faster than it will ever be in your life in the next few years, so eat 5-6 smaller meals a day to keep that up.

First thing to go: SODA! When I was 15 I drank three sodas a day and I paid for it badly. In the last few years, I've weened myself off of it, and the results are amazing. Pretty much take sugar out of your diet for the most part. You also need to avoid Trans Fats (or partially hydronated oils, save the ones in peanut butter). Protein is your best friend at this point, but go for lean meats. You want to balance one gram of protein for every 4 grams of carbs. When you get older, start lifting weights. Keep the cardio going along with it.

Hope this helps.
Eat healthy foods. No processed foods. See a nutritionist.
Good luck.
You said you are slim and an athlete? Then you shouldn't have to lose 20lbs. But if you want to keep it off during the summer you have to exercise throughout and eat healthy, just cause you're on summer vacation doesn't mean your body is too. I kind of know how you feel, I, too, play sports - volleyball and softball both varsity at my school, and I am also trying to lose weight for volleyball season... only thing is I was obese, not slim like you said you are. Losing 10 pounds throughout a season is really good! I somehow managed to gain 10 pounds last volleyball season (my dad thought it might be a thyroid issue, but we never got it checked). Well anyways, all you have to do is remember that since your body is used to exercising during the sports seasons, you have to continue exercising throughout the off-season to keep your weight down because you're body is used to it. I hope this helped. Lastly, I wish I was your height for volleyball! (I'm only 5'4" and they have me as a digger, setter, and spiker, so figure ha-ha). I wish you the best of luck in your sports this season =].
Weight Loss Facts:

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.

You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK.

You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.

You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.

What about Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig Dieting Plans?

Weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers (and Jenny Craig) usually involve slower dieting progress over a longer period of time, since such programs generally promise only 2-3 pounds of weight loss per week. Also, programs such as Jenny Craig usually involve buying special meals and/or dietary supplements during the initial phases of the program. While some people may like these types of dietary programs, we prefer a dieting plan which focuses on faster weight loss, such as the Accelerated Fat Burning Program shown below...
