Why do i like to eat weird things? I crave wood and ice and detergent?

Answers:
You may have something called "pica". Pica is a disorder where a person craves or has an appetite for non-nutritive substances like coal, soil, paper, chalk, and yes detergent and ice. People with pica may also have an abnormal appetite for food ingredients like flour, starch, etc.

Researchers aren't actually sure what causes pica, but theories abound. One theory is that people who suffer for pica may have a biochemical deficiency or iron deficiency.

There can also be psychological causes for it as well.

You really need to see a physician right away. This isn't a healthy practice (detergent, for example, contains caustic chemicals that can be fatal.) You may be referred to a specialist. There are treatments for this, but you need to see a doctor. Don't ignore this or keep it to yourself.

I've included a link below to a very comprehensive article on Pica. You should print it out and bring it with you to your Doctor's appointment.

Best of luck!
that's wierd! idk know wat to tell you besides that
umm...you're wierd. if you ate detergent then you would get sick. i highly doubt you are actually eating it.
haha whattt!?
it's called pica, the desire to eat non-food items. maybe you should talk to your doctor about it.
You probably need a blood test done. When you crave ice that means your body is low on pica. And craving wood is a sign of another vitamin defficency. You should go to a doctor soon.
Pica is what I found through webmd but my friends husband likes to eat starch because of the way it feels in his mouth and I guess its nutrients that youre lacking. But dont hold me to that I can be wrong.
Don't listen to those guys. It is highly likely that you have a diet deficiency. Please go to the doctor to have blood work done. The the doc the same thing, don't be embarrassed.
Because you are malnourished and don't have a substantial diet of varied foods.

Talk to your doctor about your disorder. He will help you and provide you with meds. and vitamins to cure these cravings.

Good luck!

(By the way, toasted bread substitutes for wood, you can eat ice and if you really want detergent, eat jello instead.)
Im not gonna tell you to go to the doctor or anything because if i did i wouldnt know what i was talking about so you could go ahead listen to these people who may think they know but probably dont have a clue what there talking about so imma be straight and tell you in the non-doctor way : maybe you have some kind of weird problem but dont try eating it because you wont be able to eat anymore lol
We all crave something weird. Sometimes I wish that I could be a cannibal for one day before I die.
yea thats just wierd.u need to see a doctor or something
I would check with your doctor on that you must be lacking something in your diet like a certain vitamin or something. I had a friend that used to eat mortar and tobacco it was because he was lacking certain vitamins. so i would ask the doc.
I agree with some of the others - you have some sort of nutrient deficiency. After I had my daughter, I was extremely anemic (iron deficiency). When the doctor was talking to me about it, she asked me if I was craving things like ice and dirt. I have also heard of some women eating things like dried clay chips. I recommend that you go to your doctor and discuss it with her.
Cravings for ice and wood can signify an iron deficiency. See your doctor about it. If he agrees, you'll probably need to take supplements.
Yeah, sounds like a Docter issue. I agree with most everyone else. But hey maybe thats just your thing. Some people eat bugars all the time and they love it !
